I’ve been seeing an increase of AI generated “Artwork” lately.
Everyone has a different opinion about artificial intelligence and how it’s impacting our daily lives. I’m not going to sit here and write a post about how AI generated images are ruining the art industry or destroying our planet.. you can form your own opinions on that.
What I will say is that most people are becoming better at recognizing AI artwork, and yes us digital artists can tell that you prompted Chat GPT to get that business logo or t-shirt design. 😉
Today I was commissioned to create a digital design of the popular Pokèmon Cubone for a digital creator’s online shop (link below if you’re interested in picking up some Pokèmon cards for your collection). First is the Pokèmon card I was given as a reference. Second is my digital design hand drawn using my iPad Pro and the drawing app Procreate. Third is the image Chat GPT generated once I provided a detailed prompt of Cubone (you can’t directly ask the AI program to generate an image of a copyrighted character, you must provide a description of the character and ask for a specific art style). I must admit that I like the use of color and the vibrant look but the character isn’t Cubone. In the last image, I used the background from the AI generated image underneath my hand drawn portrait of the character with my clients screen name above.
Even in the final image you can see the quality of the image is reduced. The AI generated image lacks attention to detail, while it initially is aesthetically pleasing and exciting you can see several discrepancies between the human creation and the computer creation.
What do you think about AI artwork?
