The lowest price can become the most expensive job you ever hire.

After 58 years in the business, Mitch has seen just about everything, including homeowners forced to remove contractors from projects after the work has already started.

In this conversation, Jason and Mitch talk about one of the most important parts of hiring a contractor: knowing who you're hiring before you ever get to the price.

If someone doesn't show up when they say they will, doesn't return calls or simply doesn't make you comfortable, a low estimate shouldn't change your mind.

Sometimes you know very quickly who you shouldn't hire.

Four generations of great renovations… and apparently, we’re working on the fifth.

For 107 years, Major Homes has been a family business. From my great-grandfather, to my grandfather, to my father Mitch, and now to me, four generations have helped carry Major Homes forward.

And as you can see, generation number five is already getting some practice.

107 years and still going strong. Go Major Homes!

**Quite the before and after.**

Major Homes was brought in to transform this existing backyard shed, and the structure itself is now complete. New exterior, new door, updated trim, and a completely different look from where we started.

Our portion of the project is finished, and now the homeowner will take it from here with the landscaping and finishing touches around the property.

A storm door is a storm door, right? Not exactly.

There can be a big difference between something that looks fine in the showroom and something built to handle years of kids, guests, weather, and everyday use.

In this video, Jason cuts through the marketing and shows what is actually inside two very different storm doors. He also explains why you might want one, why you might not, and something many homeowners don’t realize: you can always add a storm door later.

When you’re comparing prices, make sure you’re also comparing what you’re actually getting.

AI can give you a lot of answers. It can't walk through your house.

There is a big difference between asking AI for a materials list and determining what a home renovation will actually require.

Can the project be built the way you envision it? Do you need an architect? Are permits required? What problems are an experienced contractor going to recognize the moment they see the house?

Those answers come from experience, not a prompt.

At Major Homes, a consultation is about understanding the project and giving you real information, not throwing out a "ballpark" number just to give you one.

Four layers down, no shortcuts taken.

This roof had four unexpected layers that needed to come off, along with several areas of damaged wood around the flue pipes and gutter line. We removed only what needed replacing, installed new wood where necessary, and prepared the area for new flashing. About eight feet of wood needed attention, and we are not charging the homeowner for it. It needed to be done correctly, so we handled it. The crew is tied off, working safely, and moving forward with the rest of the roof.

This might hold... until the next rainstorm.

We've seen plenty of creative roof repairs over the years, but tape has never been a permanent solution.

When it comes to protecting your home, shortcuts almost always end up costing more in the long run.

Sometimes the smallest design decisions create the biggest transformation.

Swipe to see the before and after. The updated exterior, highlighted by the darker window trim, completely changes the look of this home while giving it a clean, modern feel.

Every project is different, but our goal is always the same: create an exterior that homeowners are proud to come home to.
