Antique 1840s John Wedgwood "Canova" Blue Transferware Teapot & Matching Sugar Bowl Set
A Magnificent, Matching Piece of 1840s English History for Your Home!
Transform your home decor with an absolute masterpiece of early Victorian elegance!
This stunning, factory-matching two-piece collection features a grand 9 1/2" teapot/coffeepot and a matching
8 1/4" covered sugar bowl in the fiercely hunted "Canova" pattern by the renowned John Wedgwood (c. 1840s) of Tunstall, Staffordshire, England.
Moving far away from standard, plain shapes, this regal set showcases the bold, eight-sided geometric silhouette that defined the premium design trends of the early 1840s.
The sugar bowl is flanked by two magnificent, three-dimensional molded lion-head side handles that bring an air of noble sophistication, while the teapot boasts an architectural split-handle and a faceted pouring spout.
The romantic central scenery captures a breathtaking European villa overlooking a serene lake with swimming swans, all rendered in an incredibly rich, deep cobalt blue underglaze pigment.
What makes this matching set an absolute dream for decorators and advanced transferware collectors is the incredible rarity of its completeness, both pieces still retain their elusive, original matching octagonal lids and tiered finials intact.
The cream-colored English earthenware glaze on both vessels remains remarkably clean, bright, and vibrant, making this set a jaw-dropping visual focal point.
Whether you are looking for a spectacular centerpiece to anchor a dining room hutch, elevate a Grand millennial vignette, or bring timeless blue-and-white porcelain charm to your collection, this matching John Wedgwood set provides unmatched luxury and English elegance.
Do not miss this rare opportunity to own a complete, curated vignette of mid-19th-century ceramic history!
Made in England
Antique from the 1840s.
In good antique condition. This covered sugar bowl and teapot set retains a remarkably clean with a bright glaze. While the main interior bases of both vessels are solid, the pieces show their long history through a few specific structural and cosmetic flaws.
The teapot features a chip and loss at the very tip of the pouring spout showing an old adhesive residue, a single tight hairline crack running down the spout side along its lower body joint, and hidden friction chipping along the inner collar rim fl**ge. The original matching octagonal lid sits beautifully in place, showing only character-rich surface glaze crazing across the dome.
The sugar bowl displays a tight vertical hairline crack running up the left-front octagonal body panel seam and extending into the rear attachment point of the molded lion-head handle. There is also extensive rough friction chipping along the inner collar rim fl**ge that is completely hidden from view when the lid is on. The original matching lid rests beautifully in place, showing only surface glaze crazing on the dome and two tiny, superficial flea-bites on the outer edge of its upper finial.
Please note that because of the spout flaws and the sugar bowl's body-to-handle hairline crack, this beautiful set is recommended strictly as a non-functional decorative cabinet and hutch display specimen. The teapot should not be used to hold liquids, and the sugar bowl should always be lifted gently by its base rather than its lion handles.
Measures Teapot- 9 1/2" tall by 9" across(from spout to handle) by 5 1/2" wide
Sugar Bowl- 8 1/4" tall by 5 1/2" across(from lion to lion) by 5 1/4" wide(bottom base)

Antique 1840s Blue Transferware Teapot Octagonal Ridgway Archipelago Ironstone W/Lid
Own an Authentic Piece of 1840s Victorian History, Perfect for Display!
Step back into the early 1840s with this breathtaking English blue-and-white transferware octagonal teapot. Featuring the highly collectible and beautifully romantic "Archipelago" pattern, this genuine early Victorian piece was crafted by the master potters Ridgway & Morley in Shelton, Staffordshire, between 1842 and 1844.
This teapot is a magnificent triumph of mid-19th-century design, confidently showcasing the bold, eight-sided geometric silhouette that defined the era.
From its architectural split-handle to its beautifully faceted spout, every inch of this piece screams historic elegance.
The central transfer print takes you on a journey to a classical European dreamscape, depicting a grand pillared temple resting beside a tranquil lake, entirely framed by an incredibly rich, dense floral-lace border along the shoulders and matching lid.
Whether you are an advanced blue-and-white transferware connoisseur looking for a rare, budget-friendly addition to your collection, or an interior decorator seeking the ultimate touch of Grand millennial charm to anchor a dining room hutch, this 180-year-old survivor is an exceptional opportunity.
Do not miss the chance to own an authentic, complete piece of early Victorian history that brings timeless Staffordshire elegance and undeniable character straight to your shelves!
Made in England
Antique from the 1840s.
In good antique condition. While it remains a visually stunning and highly collectible display piece, it features several specific condition points that should be noted. Externally, the vibrant cobalt blue transfer print retains beautiful contrast, and the main octagonal body is structurally sound. However, the tip of the pouring spout has sustained a clean break and loss that has been repaired. The original matching octagonal lid is present, though it displays two small, visible chips directly along its front-facing outer rim edge. Looking inside, the interior base reveals heavy, tea-stained antique glaze crazing alongside deep, horizontal structural hairline cracks running along the lower corner joints of the inner floor. Because of these interior base cracks and the spout damage, the teapot is structurally compromised, will not hold water, and is being offered strictly as a non-functional, decorative cabinet piece.
