If you want to ensure that your final blocks turn out perfect, I recommend creating a test block first. That way, if you make any mistakes while building it, you can easily fix the pattern right then and there. And if your test block turns out flawless, you can save it for another use. I like to make all of my test blocks from similar fabrics so that I can collect them and assemble them into a fun, scrappy quilt one day.
