“We’re remodeling our kitchen. What should we choose first — the flooring, cabinets, countertops or paint?”
Heather’s answer: before choosing any one piece, think about what is staying, what is changing and what you’ll be living with the longest.
Flooring, cabinets and countertops are the bigger commitments. Paint? That’s a lot easier to change later.
And don’t make these decisions from tiny samples in completely different places.
Put the flooring next to the cabinets. Compare it with the countertop. Look at everything in the morning and again when the afternoon sun comes through the windows. Sometimes a combination that looked perfect in a showroom looks completely different at home.
This is also where Heather’s Interior Design background comes in handy. If you’re changing more than your floors, tell us. Bring out the cabinet sample. Show us the countertop you’re considering.
And if you ask Heather what she thinks?…she’ll tell you. 😄

You might run into your flooring people at the golf course. ⛳
Or out on Lake Wylie. 🚤 Or at a concert or community event around Tega Cay.
For Heather and Brian, this isn’t just where they own a business. It’s home.
They love Friday Night Golf League, sneaking in nine holes when they can, fishing or cruising on the lake, and spending time at the pool with friends and family.

✨ Your Hardwood Floors Look Tired…But Do They Really Need to Be Completely Refinished?

Maybe not! 👀

If your hardwood has lost some of its shine and is showing normal surface wear, but the wood itself is still in good condition, a Screen & Coat may be exactly what it needs.

And here’s the good news: it can be a more affordable option than a full sand and refinish. 🙌

With a traditional sand and refinish, the existing finish is sanded down to the bare wood before new stain and finish are applied. That’s the right solution when floors have deeper scratches, significant wear, discoloration, or when you want to change the stain color.

But sometimes your floors don’t need all of that.

A Screen & Coat lightly abrades the existing finish so a fresh protective coat can properly bond to the surface. The result? Your hardwood gets a refreshed finish and some of that beautiful life back — without going through the entire sanding and refinishing process. 🏡✨

It’s a little like the difference between repainting the entire car and giving the finish the refresh it actually needs. 😄

Of course, Screen & Coat isn’t right for every hardwood floor. If there are deep scratches, damage, worn areas down to bare wood, or you want to completely change the color, a full refinish may still be the better choice.

That’s why it helps to have someone take a look before assuming you need the bigger, more expensive project. ❤️

🔨 Brian’s Advice: Don’t Choose a Floor Just Because Someone Else Loves It

Your neighbor LOVES their new hardwood.

Your sister says luxury vinyl is the only flooring she would ever buy again.

Someone online insists tile is the answer to everything.

And Brian will tell you something different:

They might all be right — for their homes. 😄

One of the biggest mistakes you can make when choosing flooring is starting with “What’s the best flooring?”

There really isn’t one answer.

A family with three kids and two dogs 🐕 has different needs than a couple whose kids have moved out. A lake house where people regularly walk in with wet feet has different demands than an upstairs bedroom. And the beautiful hardwood that works perfectly in one room might not be Brian’s first recommendation for another.

That’s why Brian likes to start with how the room is actually used.

Who lives there?
Is it a high-traffic area?
Are there pets? 🐾
Is water or moisture a concern?
How much maintenance are you comfortable with?
And, of course, what do you want the room to LOOK like? 🏡

Once you know those things, it becomes much easier to narrow down the choices.

Brian has installed nearly every type of flooring over the years, so he tends to look beyond the sample and think about what happens after that flooring has been lived on for a while.

His advice?

Choose for your real life first. Then find the beautiful option that fits it. ❤️
