If the bedroom doubles as your home office, or the kitchen is the place where most entertaining takes place, don't fight it. Make sure that those spaces that are not only flexible but multipurpose.

Will that dining room transform into a sitting room or a cozy reading nook?

Let the design serve both ends to make these spaces livable and pleasurable to be in.
