Americana Coins & Currency, LLC

Formerly known as Southwest Florida Gold and Silver, Coins and Currency (SWFLGSCC), Americana Coins & Currency was founded through auction sales in 2000 and proudly operates out of Southwest Florida. With over 40 years of personal collecting experience, my passion has always been rooted in educating others about personal wealth, history, and the joy of collecting.

As a retired U.S. Navy veteran, Iโ€™ve naturally developed extensive knowledge in both U.S. and foreign coins and currency, which has grown into a broader appreciation for Americana items. Today, we specialize in buying and selling gold and silver bullion, coins, currency, stamps, jewelry, and unique Americana collectibles. We also craft and offer custom wood products that reflect a deep respect for American heritage. Looking ahead, we plan to expand into additional areas such as firearms. ๐Ÿ’ต NEW IN THE STORE โ€” ONE MORE BEFORE THE WEEKEND! ๐Ÿ’ต

Weโ€™ve shown you some pretty incredible pieces of American currency history this week, and we have one more new arrival to share!

This Series of 1929 $100 Federal Reserve Bank Note was issued by the Federal Reserve Bank of New York and features Benjamin Franklin on the front with Philadelphiaโ€™s Independence Hall on the reverse. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

But look closely this isn't quite the $100 bill we're familiar with today.

And unlike today's Federal Reserve Notes, this is a Federal Reserve Bank Note, with the issuing Federal Reserve Bank prominently identified right on the face.

From Colonial Currency dated 1776, to an 1882 $100 Gold Certificate, to this Series of 1929 $100 Federal Reserve Bank Note we've added some incredible pieces of American monetary history to the cases this week.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ And thereโ€™s even more we haven't shown you yet!

All of these new arrivals and more will be in the store this upcoming Friday, Saturday & Sunday.

Come spend some time digging through the cases and see whatโ€™s new. You never know what piece of history might be waiting for you!

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ NEW IN THE STORE FOR THIS WEEKEND AND THIS ONE IS OLDER THAN AMERICA! ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

Before there were dollars issued by the United Statesโ€ฆ there was Colonial Currency.

New in at Americana Coins & Currency is this Pennsylvania Two-Thirds Dollar note, dated February 17, 1776...This was issued nearly five months BEFORE the signing of the Declaration of Independence!

Printed in Philadelphia by Hall & Sellers, the firm produced paper currency for Pennsylvania and would also print currency for the Continental Congress during the Revolutionary era.

๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Think about what was happening when this note was issuedโ€ฆ

George Washington was commanding the Continental Army.

The Revolutionary War was already underway.

The Declaration of Independence had not yet been signed.

And the United States of America technically didn't even exist yet.

Nearly 250 years later, this little piece of paper has survived to tell the story.

Pieces like this are one of our favorite parts of collecting because sometimes you're not just holding old money.

You're holding American history. ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ

๐Ÿ’ต NEW IN THE STORE A SURVIVOR FROM THE GOLDEN AGE OF U.S. CURRENCY! ๐Ÿ’ต

Just arrived at Americana Coins & Currency: an 1882 Series $100 Gold Certificate and this is one of those notes you donโ€™t come across every day.

Issued during an era when U.S. paper currency could be redeemed for gold coin, these large-size Gold Certificates are instantly recognizable by their striking golden-orange reverse

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Hereโ€™s what makes this one especially interesting:

Approximately 2.2 MILLION $100 Gold Certificates of this type were originally issued.

Today, it is estimated that only around 750โ€“800 examples still exist.

That means that well over 99% of the original population has disappeared over the last 140+ years.

The front features Thomas Hart Benton, the longtime U.S. Senator from Missouri, while the reverse showcases a beautifully engraved American eagle and that unmistakable gold-colored design.

Itโ€™s a fantastic example of just how different American money once looked and this is a genuine survivor of U.S. monetary history.

Stop in and see it in person before it finds its next collection.

The Foundation of an American Icon

On this day in 1884, the cornerstone for the Statue of Liberty's pedestal was laid on Bedloe's Island (now Liberty Island) in New York Harbor.

A gift from the people of France, the Statue of Liberty was created to celebrate the enduring friendship between France and the United States and to honor the ideals of freedom and democracy. While the statue itself was still being completed in France, work on its American pedestal marked the beginning of one of the nation's most recognizable landmarks.

When the monument was dedicated in 1886, it quickly became a symbol of hope, welcoming millions of immigrants arriving in New York Harbor in search of a better life.

๐Ÿ—ฝ Did You Know?
The Statue of Liberty's official name is "Liberty Enlightening the World" and To celebrate America's 250th Anniversary (Semi quincentennial), the 2026 Kennedy Half Dollar features a special one-year-only design with a close-up portrait of the Statue of Liberty on the obverse, honoring one of the nation's most enduring symbols of freedom.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ More than 140 years later, Lady Liberty continues to stand as a powerful reminder of the freedoms and opportunities that define America.

๐Ÿ’ฌ If you could visit one American historical landmark, which would you choose? ๐Ÿ—ฝ

America's First Sea Service is Born

On this day in 1790, Congress authorized the creation of the United States Revenue Cutter Service, the nation's first armed maritime service.

Created at the request of Treasury Secretary Alexander Hamilton, the Revenue Cutter Service was tasked with enforcing customs laws, preventing smuggling, and protecting the young nation's revenue along its coastline.

For more than 125 years, these brave crews served America before the organization officially became the United States Coast Guard in 1915.

Today, the Coast Guard continues that proud tradition by protecting our nation's waters, conducting search and rescue missions, enforcing maritime law, and safeguarding our ports.

โš“ Did You Know?
The United States Coast Guard is the oldest continuous seagoing military service in the United States.

๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ Thank you to all who have served in the Revenue Cutter Service and the United States Coast Guard.

The answer is... the 2026 Roosevelt Dime!

First introduced in 1946, the Roosevelt dime honors President Franklin D. Roosevelt and has been a staple of American pocket change for nearly 80 years.

While today's dimes are made of a copper core with a nickel outer layer, dimes minted 1964 and earlier were struck in 90% silver, making them favorites among collectors.
