This week a friend and I helped a friend of ours get settled in their new senior living apartment. Our goal was to make their space feel warm and cozy, and to showcase all their collected treasures and memories. Having helped my mom move into a smaller space, I know this is a big deal, to feel like the space is really yours. One of the things that really helped in our friend's space was having odd-shaped objects to hang on the wall--pottery, a metal tree, stained glass. When everything is a square or rectangle, it makes it more difficult. Several objects came from Australia (they have a family member who lives there), and this was also a big win. You want things that are unique. Think about it. No one is going to come over and start a conversation about the wall art you bought at Target. But put a boomerang on your wall and watch people speak up.
