This Side of Heaven - Handmade Rosaries

This Side of Heaven - Handmade Rosaries Every rosary I humbly create is with guidance by the Holy Spirit. Please see the story of This Side of Heaven I asked for Jeff’s advice every step of the way.

I enjoy creating these custom rosaries and rosary bracelets for you and your loved ones to honor and pray upon to our beautiful Mother of God. A few months before the unexpected death of my beloved husband, Jeff, I felt called by the Holy Spirit to create a unique rosary. When I was finished creating my first rosary, Jeff held the navy blue and antique copper rosary in his hands. He said it was “b

eautiful” and asked me “who is this for?” At the time, I had no clue. I was trusting in the Holy Spirit to lead me to it’s owner. The weekend before my husband passed away, he was watching me create some bracelets at our dining room table. He said, “You know something? If anything ever happens to me, I know you’ll be ok. You’ll be making your bracelets and rosaries.”

Jeff was devoted to Mother Mary and prayed a rosary daily for some many family members, friends and causes. He passed with a rosary by his side. I didn’t want him buried with the rosary he received when he became a Catholic - that was mine to treasure. Our youngest daughter wanted the rosary her dad prayed daily over the past few years. I had no idea what to do. The Holy Spirit woke me in the middle of the night and I clearly understood who’s hands would forever hold my first rosary - my beloved husband whom I had loved for 39 years. At the funeral mass, Fr. Dan said, “Jeff was a prophet when he declared you the Rosary Maker.”

Every rosary I ,(Karen Brockman), humbly create is with guidance by the Holy Spirit.

APRIL 16 + Today is the Feast Day of Spiritual Warrior Saint Bernadette Soubirous — Feast Days February 18 (New) April 16 (Traditional) + Pray for us

Bernadette Soubirous was born in 1844, the first child of an extremely poor miller in the town of Lourdes in southern France. The family was living in the basement of a dilapidated building when on February 11, 1858, the Blessed Virgin Mary appeared to Bernadette in a cave above the banks of the Gave River near Lourdes.

Bernadette, 14 years old, was known as a virtuous girl though a dull student who had not even made her first Holy Communion. In poor health, she had suffered from asthma from an early age.

There were 18 appearances in all, the final one occurring on July 16, the feast of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel. Although Bernadette’s initial reports provoked skepticism, her daily visions of “the Lady” brought great crowds of the curious.

The Lady, Bernadette explained, had instructed her to have a chapel built on the spot of the visions. There, the people were to come to wash in and drink of the water of the spring that had welled up from the very spot where Bernadette had been instructed to dig.

According to Bernadette, the Lady of her visions appeared to be about 16 or 17 years old and she wore a white dress with a blue sash. Yellow roses covered her feet, and a large rosary was on her right arm. In the vision on March 25 she told Bernadette, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” It was then, when the words were explained to her, that Bernadette came to realize who the Lady really was.

Few visions have ever undergone the scrutiny that these appearances of the Immaculate Virgin were subject to. Lourdes became one of the most popular Marian shrines in the world, attracting millions of visitors. Miracles were reported at the shrine and in the waters of the spring. After thorough investigation, Church authorities confirmed the authenticity of the apparitions in 1862.

During her life, Bernadette suffered much. She was hounded by the public as well as by civic officials until at last she was protected in a convent of nuns. Five years later, she petitioned to enter the Sisters of Notre Dame.

After a period of illness she was able to make the journey from Lourdes and enter the novitiate. But within four months of her arrival she was given the last rites of the Church and allowed to profess her vows. She recovered enough to become infirmarian and then sacristan, but chronic health problems persisted. She died on April 16, 1879, at the age of 35 and was canonized in 1933.

MARCH 23 + Today is the Feast Day of Our Lady of Victories + Pray for us O Holy Mother of God, that we may be made worthy of the promises of Christ.

During the pontificate of Pope Pius V, 1566-1572, the Ottoman Turks became a serious threat to Christian nations. They controlled maritime power in the Mediterrranean, and regularly raided the coast cities of Italy. Venice, the most vulnerable, tried to maintain a strategic neutrality to protect her trade with the East.

When Sultan Selim II demanded the surrender of Cyprus, the Venetians appealed to the Pope. Pius V proposed the Holy League of Christian powers, the crusade against the Turks. He succeeded in organizing a fleet at Messina under command of Don Juan of Austria. In 1571 this fleet comprised 206 galley ships and 80,000 soldiers from Venice, Naples, Genoa, Spain and Malta. The Turks had superior forces – 230 galleys and 120,000 soldiers.

Don Juan aboard the flagship, Reale, sailed down the Greek coast on the morning of October 7th, 1571 and spied the Turkish fleet in the Gulf of Lepanto (Corinth). Admiral Ali Pasha aboard his flagship, Sultana, took the lead. Christian and Turkish fleets engaged in battle. By day’s end the Sultana was captured, Ali Pasha was slain, the Turks were routed, and 12,000 Christians were released from slavery.

On the very same day, the Rosary Confraternity of Rome met in the Dominican Church to pray for the victory of the Christian forces. When the news of victory reached Rome, it was attributed to the intercession of Our Lady. In commemoration of Lepanto, Pope Pius V established a feast in honor of Our Lady of Victories. Gregory XIII later changed it to the Feast of the Most Holy Rosary, celebrated on October 7th. But March 23 is the traditional feast day of Our Lady of Victories.
