This one’s a little more personal.

I’m building an Argentinian flag-inspired serving tray for my wife’s dad and his wife, along with a matching six-piece coaster set.

Between the builds themselves and the recent flood of messages about my herringbone tray, I’ve also been thinking a lot about how small business owners balance work with actually being present for their families.

If you run a business, I’d genuinely like to hear what works for you.

Part 2 will reveal the finished set and why I used two different shades of blue.

This one started as an old slab of white oak and ended up becoming something completely different.

I really like how the natural character in the wood plays against the metallic blue epoxy, especially now that everything is finished and cleaned up.

Best part is that this one actually has a purpose beyond just looking good. It’s headed to BIZZY B's Jewelry to be used as a display for handcrafted pieces.

What do y’all think of the final combination?

This old white oak slab is getting a second life.

I’m turning it into a custom display board for handcrafted jewelry, using an inverted live edge design with Azure Blue and metallic Luster Agent from Rolio.

Part 1 is all about getting everything prepped, sealed, mixed, leveled, and poured.

Now we wait for the cure and see what’s hiding underneath in Part 2.

20,000 FOLLOWERS!! 🎉

I seriously can’t thank you guys enough. What started as me simply sharing my woodworking projects, mistakes, experiments, and everything I’ve learned along the way has somehow turned into a community of 20,000 people following along.

Every view, like, comment, share, follow, and even the occasional person telling me I’m doing something completely wrong 😂 has helped this page grow and has brought me one step closer to turning Resin Root Craft Co. into something I can do full time.

The amount of support, custom inquiries, and kind messages I’ve received lately has been unreal.

I’m still learning. I’m still making mistakes. And I’m definitely still figuring things out as I go. But I’ll keep bringing you guys along for all of it.

Sometimes the project tells you what tool you need to build next.

This oak slab was too wide for my planer, so I finally built a router sled and put it straight to work. A little pine, a homemade jig, and plenty of passes later, we’ve got one flat slab ready for the next stage.

And yes… I definitely made the jig look nicer than it needed to. 😂

EDIT: THIS SERVING TRAY HAS BEEN SOLD!

Part two is finally here, and yes… those “missing” corners were intentional. 😂

This black walnut and Deep Sea Blue herringbone serving board finished out at 12” x 18” x 1”, and I’m really happy with how the shape, sheen, and color came together.

Huge shoutout to 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝™ 𝐄𝐩𝐨𝐱𝐲 for the epoxy and Rolio Pigments for the Deep Sea Blue. Both performed really well on this build.

Sometimes the mistake ends up becoming the best part of the build.

What started as a glue up issue turned into 42 cherry end grain inlays on this black walnut, African mahogany, and hard maple cutting board.

Seriously, have any other woodworkers out there dealt with the issue I did first hand? I’ve made plenty of end grain cutting boards throughout the years and this was a first for me! I’d love to hear your thoughts and experiences down in the comments.

Quick and easy repair, but one with a lot of history behind it.

This maple cutting board has been around for over 40 years and was almost thrown away. A few repairs, some hardwood offcuts, and a fresh coat of mineral oil gave it plenty of life left.

I left some of the old knife marks and wear on purpose. After four decades of use, I think those deserve to stay.

Would you restore something like this or replace it?

This one started as a custom commission, but the story changed halfway through the build.

The herringbone pattern was inspired by one of my previous videos, and the black walnut paired with Deep Sea Blue from Rolio Pigments ended up being a really clean combination.

I also got to try out a couple products from 𝐖𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐁𝐨𝐧𝐝™ 𝐄𝐩𝐨𝐱𝐲 on this build, including their table top resin for the base pour, Quick Set epoxy for the seal coat and their deep pour resin for the main pour. So far, I’ve been really impressed with how much the Quick Set sped up that part of the process.

Now I want to hear from y’all.

If a custom order gets canceled after you’ve already started, how do you handle the deposit?

And what would you do with a board like this once it’s no longer tied to the original commission?
