So??
Okay, I went to look at the space. It is perfect for Nest. They want $1500/1600. In rent ( I hate that I have good taste). They want a three year lease which is reasonable.
But-
I just don’t trust the economy, especially the Humboldt economy. I think it’s this year that all the sh*t hits the fan with the tariffs. There are several stores that have closed in Old Town.

And, the retirement plan is to travel. I have to keep reminding myself this because I love building businesses. But a storefront is also like a child. It’s not going to be something I can leave for a couple of months at a time.

Not to say that I have given up on the idea. But for now, I’m going to let someone else give it a try. Someone with a rich husband!

See how wishy washy I am?

Tomorrow May or May Not Be A Big Day!

The New Year has Arrived, we have survived another holiday season, and the New Year Spreads out all of its Opportunities Before Us.

I just Love that. Freshness, opportunity, the Newness. It’s like drinking in the Fresh New Air of morning.

After three years of feeling Beaten, bogged down, purpose- less, mixed with a little empty nest, I’m feeling restored. Do you know what happens to a creative gal like me after a rest for three years? An explosion! A creative Big Bang! Better hold on to you hat Folks!

So here it is-
Tomorrow I’m looking at a shop space!
Ya. Let that one smack ya!

More to follow….

Hi my Peeple!
Long time, no post. Had to get away from it all for a spell. Burn out is Real.

But something changed last Spring. I started feeling better, more creative again. The fog lifted, the sun came out (a little bit haha) spring was in the air. I started gardening. I started spring cleaning, and YES! I started feeling like painting furniture again.

Since then, I’ve been looking for inspiration. When you have been painting as long as I have, you’ve dipped your brush into many different styles. I’ve done murals, classical finishes (marbles, frescoes,Venetian plasters, leafing, waxes , you name it), contemporary, country, nautical, and farmhouse.

So the question is where can I settle that still makes me feel challenged? What’s hard to do but really gives me satisfaction when the piece is done?

So, while not everyone will like this style, I’ve found some inspiration and THAT MAKES ME WANT TO PAINT! And I want to share this with you.

It’s not an easy thing to paint a piece of furniture to make it look TRULY aged over the years. I’ve seen lots of bad shabby chic jobs. A truly old piece of furniture is soft. The finish has its own patina where it’s been worn down over the years. It has layers of color, where various paint jobs show through. And it takes time to replicate. See the bottom of this piece? The whites have turned yellow, the wood has turned dark due to the old original shellac. The various greens are worn and crackling. Truly chippy. Truly worn, Truly loved.

So while I always take on custom orders and make pieces like you want them, be prepared to see some worn out, magical looking pieces coming forth soon. Maybe I will call it Faux Ancient. Faux Magical, The Faux Realm. There’s a future topic of conversation.

I’ll start posting more often now that I have a direction.

Hey Family,
So I’m redoing all my social media because I’m starting my business over. A business opened up in Old Town called The Nest ( having nothing to do with me or home and garden or birds or anything Nest related), so I’ve changed my name a bit and am rethinking my little bubble that my friends call Kimmy World.
As I figure out what platforms to use and create my new retail spot, I hope you all will follow me in my new adventure.
They say you can’t keep a good man down. Well, you can’t keep this girl down either. And when I come back, it’s usually with a roar!
I’m excited!

The weather today was amazing! Sunshine and blue skies one minute, full on hail storm the next and repeat! Some brave people came to visit and shop ( thank you! ), but with Christmas coming fast I thought I better open tomorrow too as the weather will be better.
So, Nest will be open on Sundays 11-4 up until Christmas, yeah!
We have all of our Christmas priced like a good Thrift Store and on top of that I’m giving 25% off. I even have a free box! Help me get rid of boxes and boxes of stuff please!

I know Christmas isn’t even here yet but is it too soon to start talking about the New Year? I LOVE fresh beginnings. I LOVE a clean slate. I LOVE a new idea. And BOY, do I have plenty!

In January, Nest will be concentrating on FURNITURE and CLASSES. It seems like it’s going to be a nippy classic Humboldt winter this year, so my theme is going to be all about sprucing up our nests! Cleaning, redecorating and making everything cozy, the NEST way.
Let’s make a New Year’s Resolution to make our Nests into our special place where we can be creative and cozy.

I’m going to be offering several new services as well.

Color consultations for both interior and exterior.

In home painting services- small paint jobs, cabinetry, murals , stenciling, washes and furniture.

Interior decorating services. I’ve worked with designers all my life to create spaces for them that make them look good, in all budgets. Now it’s time for me to start my own decorating service. From urban, shabby chic, contemporary, to my own little Nest style, there isn’t anything I haven’t done.

As well as lots of New CLASSES!
All materials as well as snacks and wine are provided. I don’t mind two people working on one project so you can split the cost.
Pre pay to hold a seat as my classes fill up fast!
If you can’t make it, then pick another class to take.

Our last “paint your own piece” class was really popular and I’ve had requests for more! So-

January 22, Sunday 2-5 pm
Paint your own piece CLASS #2
bring a small project or a drawer or door of a bigger project and let’s learn about all three paint lines we carry ( chalk paint, all in one silk paint and diy clay paint) and how to prep your piece for painting. We also learn about sealers and distressing.

January 29, Sunday 2-5 pm
Transfers , paint inlays or decoupage ?
Learn all about the differences between these three useful decorative techniques and apply them to your own project or I can provide one for you.

February 12, Sunday 2-5 pm
Valentine’s Day class
Let’s celebrate Love! I remember my daughter was supposed to be born on the 10 th of February. By Valentine’s Day, I was really thinking how perfect it would be if she was born that day so I was running up and down stairs, chopping the wood for the fire, painting the kitchen. But no. The princess loves to stay in bed and wasn’t coming out. We eventually kicked her out on the 18 th but I still consider her my love child.
So bring a picture of some you love and let’s frame it up with paint, decoupage, stain glass mosaic and or shells and make a keepsake that you will cherish forever.

February 19, Sunday 2-5 pm
Stenciling class
How to design and cut your own stencil
How to properly stencil without those mucky edges
Raised stenciling

Much More to come!
Garden classes in Spring
