I've been intrigued by a colorful glass tile that hangs on the wall at a friends house. Wanted to see if I could recreate this patten in wood.
After several months of work, here is my adaptation as a charcuterie board. Couldn't do the green color as that generally means that its not seasoned wood. Used cherry instead with yellow hart for the yellow and padauk for the red color. Thin strips between pieces are mahogany, and the white is maple. Final surrounding border is walnut. Board is all end-grain and measures 10"X 18"X 1 3/4".
For construction, I started from the center and built outwards taking advantage of symmetry where possible. About 25 individual glue steps to get to the final product. Finished with Odie's Oil and beeswax.
