A family member who was born from my mother and their friend stealing my proprietary formulas and copying my business model is definitely a teachable moment.
Don’t share any product or business info with anyone unless they have signed the following:
1. Non-Compete Agreement-Ensures that individuals cannot start a competing business using your proprietary information or formulas.
2. Non-Circumvention Agreement-Protects against parties bypassing you to engage with your clients or suppliers directly.
3. Intellectual Property Assignment Agreement-If employees or contractors create intellectual property for your business, this agreement ensures that those rights belong to you.
Protect yourself and think twice before getting involved with friends and family in business.
Unfortunately this whole situation has left me hating candle making which was once a therapeutic release and passion of mine. Therefore I will be having an online fire sale to move the rest of my inventory. I also want to get rid of all my equipment so if you are looking to get started with candle making and need supplies you should join the sale. I’ll post more details soon please spread the word, the sale will be in late April, or early May.
