Step 6&7 kind of go together.

When you add the glitter to the pen base you have to seal the glitter. When you add the glitter it is “lose”. Even when I tap to knock off the glitter that didn’t adhere to the mod podge there is still some that will come off when handling the pens.
It’s important step that can’t be missed. Even if you are only using one color of glitter. If I don’t seal it the glitter that is lose will form clumps or globs under resin and then my pens look like an 80’s school relief map.

To sell the glitter in I used several different things. Most of the time my go to is mod podge. Sometimes I use clear spray paint. I have also used a product called glitter glue. That stuff is amazing! However, it’s very thin. I find it hard to use on ink pens because the surface area is so small. I mainly use glitter glue on tumblers. It is basically a polyurethane and has a clearcoat when applied. And it keeps everything where it’s supposed to be. It’s great on tumblers because. Typically I’m using more than one color glitter. And it keeps them separated nicely. There is no cross contamination!

After the sealant is on the pens, then I apply the first coat of resin. Typically, I let the pens sit overnight or at least 4 to 6 hours. You definitely don’t want to put resin on top of wet mod podge. Believe me, talking from experience it’s not a good look.

Yesterday was step five in the process of pen making.

Step one take all the pens apart
Step two sand every pen
Step three paint every pen, white
Step four add correct paint color
Step five add the glitter

Did you know that I have over 300 colors and shades of glitter. When I pick a glitter to use it is based off of which color matches the design the best!

I love when I get to glitter the pens! Even though the bottles are clear I can assure you that when it is placed on the pen it is beautiful! It’s the best step to see my vision come alive.

If you are looking for fall, it’s here! Located in my craft studio. The high today might be 94° outside, but, these new designs will put you into the fall spirit. Several new fall designs will be dropping this weekend. Here is one of them.

I love creating new designs. One of the hardest parts is creating seasonal designs. I get very excited and my brain starts rolling with design ideas, especially when it comes to seasonal. It just gets me in the mood for the next holiday. Sometimes, it’s hard to find a balance between making 5 new patterns and making 17. If I ever figure out the happy number, I’ll let you know!

I think the easiest part is coming up with every day patterns. These are pens that are not seasonal necessarily, but, pens that you can use every day example… coffee, pickles, career inspired etc.

One of my favorite things that shows is to hear customers talk about the variety and selection of ink pens that we have to choose from. If you have an idea for a pen- drop it below. I would l❤️ve to hear from you.

When you finally decide to pick out new paint. The bold colors make it all worth while.

When I start the pen process. I sand first. Then paint all pens white- NO MATTER WHAT COLOR THEY WILL BE IN THE END. I think by painting them white the finally paint color along with the glitter makes them pop more!

Because I have been working to add more designs and continuing my growth of inventory I make a list of which pens to make. Sometimes I run a report for inventory to show which design I'm low on. But normally after a show I know which designs sold the best. From the photos below you may not be able to tell but there will be 20 different designs. Just because a pen is painted purple, doesn't mean it is going to be the same glitter of purple. I have over 300 glitters, to say I have different shades of purple is an understatement.

On to the next step! Glittering- this is the longest step. when you have 26 purple pens, but they are going to be 4 different shades of glitter, I have to make sure that I have the right count.

The LARGEST order I have ever placed for pens wraps has arrived.

As a small business it is always a trust the process to see if what I think customers will like is true. I enjoy coming up with my own designs while also buying from other small businesses. It’s definitely a balancing act. These new wraps I’m proud to say are MY OWN DESIGNS.

Be on the lookout this week for a LIVE to look at all the new pens/ pens wraps!

This market is so fun! 2full days of shopping and socializing- two things I love the mostest 😆
