Four years ago this winter, I was making the finish and furnishing selections for this home. We finished installing it almost three years ago, which feels mildly impossible 🤍

I shared a little pan across this coffee table yesterday, and the kitchen window I shared is just off to the left of this keeping room space. Looking through photos today, I realized that I definitely haven’t shared enough of this beautiful home over the years.

If you’ve ever built a new home or even added an addition, you know that so many different kinds of decisions go into making a home feel good.

That’s really what my design consultations are for.
Bring me the room that isn’t working. The layout you’ve rearranged twelve times. The paint colors you can’t commit to. Furnishings, lighting, finishes, a renovation you’re planning, or a handful of decisions that have somehow turned into 47 open tabs that feeling completely overwhelming.

We’ll use our time together to look at what’s there, talk through what isn’t working, and use the time to solve immediate design dilemmas, or as walk through brainstorming session for a future project.

Sometimes a consultation is one focused appointment leaving you with a clear way forward. And sometimes it becomes the first step toward a larger project together. I offer different levels of design service depending on how much help you need from there.

And since this house is somehow already almost three years post-install, I think it’s time I finally shared more of it. It’s a great example of the difference early guidance makes towards a project 🤍

Some rooms are built just as much by the light as anything we put in them. Where it enters. Where it falls. What it catches it throughout the day. It’s one of the reasons I think about windows, sightlines and orientation so early in a design. A room changes hour by hour, and I want it to be beautiful in all of them.

A beautiful room begins long before the coffee table gets styled. There’s the underlying structure of the room.. planning the future layout, the sources of lighting, the sightlines, consideration of scale and proportion.. next comes the foundational pieces that shape how a room will function, but also how it will feel. And then come the personal layers that make it your own. The artwork, books, objects, greenery, sentimental pieces collected over time.. I love the finishing details. Maybe because, in the end when everything starts to come together, they’re precisely what make what was previously a well designed room, begin to feel like a home.

Before the paint, the furniture, the lighting or the finishing details, I’m looking at the whole picture. How the rooms relate to each other, how you move through them, what you already own, what’s missing, and where your investment will make the biggest difference.

One of my favorite things about transforming spaces isn’t always about changing everything. The most important aspect of a beautiful transformation is changing how everything in the space relates to everything else.

This room started with great light, generous windows and a beautiful vaulted ceiling. The opportunity was to give all of that openness a little more structure, warmth and depth.

We layered in soft draperies to draw the eye upward, beams and a chandelier for definition and structure, and a couple of new chairs and textiles.

We didn’t change most of the furnishings, but the end result feels entirely different, yet still completely at home in the house. Swipe through for the befores 🤍

A color palette inspiration that started at a living history museum in Sturbridge, Massachusetts… and eventually found its way into the design of a brow studio in Milton 🤍

I love looking back at the progression from inspiration, to renderings, to the finished space — and seeing how the thing that had existed only in my mind became a place you could actually walk into. Still one of my favorites.

Some homes feel naturally layered and calm, not because of a single decision.. a paint color, a light fixture, a set of drapes.. but because the room has been built with intention from the ground up. Architecture first. Materiality second. Then the quiet layers that bring a space to life.

I’ve always been drawn to designers who understand this deeply, and Carley Summers is one of them. Her work carries a sense of warmth and sense of permanence that feels both structured and soulful.

Some clients ask for calm neutrals. This one asked for color, pattern, and personality. Once she gave me permission to go all in, her spaces unfolded in layers of florals, velvet, brass, and just enough leopard to keep things interesting. A fearless client makes for a very fun project. 3 years later and it’s still one of my favorite bolder projects.
