I’m closed for winter, but that doesn’t mean work doesn’t continue… or maybe it does, because I’m finding all sorts of distractions to avoid an end-of-year cleanup and organization.

But that’s fine, because one of those distractions involved going through receipts and writing one last check for 2025 to the food pantry here in Franklin. At $460 it’s not a gigantic contribution on its own, but it nudges the total amount given past a threshold, up to $17,324.

A reminder that I started this program when the world screeched to a halt in 2020. It’s done good things, and there was a moment when I began to think it might not be necessary anymore. Every day of the past year has delivered some new, fresh hell proving that instinct wrong. ☹️

Today is the shop’s last day open until April/May of 2026. It feels like the right moment to look back on a few favorites that passed through my hands this year. Many of these pieces went on to live with people I know, making the act of letting them go feel less like loss and more like continuity.

Open 11–5:30 today, and by appointment only thereafter.

I love the transformations some objects undergo. Perhaps my favorite is what’s variously called “alligatoring,” an “attic finish,” or – more simply and accurately – “contraction.” The result of extreme shifts between heat and cold acting on a surface varnish, it can transform a mundane object into something “other”.

Open today and tomorrow from 11-5:30 then by appointment only until April/May.

Open until 5:30 today.

Other than the fact that it’s just upstairs, this image has nothing to do with the shop. I finished painting my bedroom a few weeks ago—okay, trim still not done, so not finished finished—but closer than before. The color is the result of a mere 20 or so samples observed through changing conditions over the course of four seasons, and I’m confident it was precisely the right choice.

Feeling thankful for the folks who’ve helped me through the trials of the last year and a half. Because of your help, I’m gradually making this place feel like home—no small challenge, but one I’m willing to meet.

The grinning Tolai mask was a gift from my friend Bobbi. The two small porthole landscape paintings are by my friend ; the larger painting is by Niels Michaelsen, dated 1961, from my friends at .

Wall color is Benjamin Moore’s Cedar Path, and I freaking love it.

Among the last group of egg tempera paintings by my late friend, Gail Bunting, were two works she created as Christmas cards. One has found a new home; this one remains. It’s remarkable how the red berries and the mouse are enough to convey the sentiment, unmistakably in Gail’s voice.
Open until 5:30, today.

Recently acquired an interesting collection, and I’m only just beginning to work my way into it.
The symbolism surrounding mourning can be complex, and I’ve always found it fascinating. With its own motifs and shifting trends, it really is a (now mostly) secret language.
Traditional gold-on-black letterpress memorial cabinet cards offer a glimpse into this visual vocabulary—and they’re in the shop just in time for the holidays. 😉

It’s that time of year when my feed becomes 90% holiday cards — you’ve been warned.
AND it’s your annual reminder to prove you still have manners and let your nearest and dearest know you’re thinking of them.
Available in-store (obviously), and also on Etsy or my website (link in bio). You can also just message me.
Open Saturday and Sunday, 11-5:30.
And just so we’re clear—yes, I’d love it if you bought from me, but even more than that, I hope you’ll support small businesses wherever you shop.
