GREY WEATHERED BARN SIDING 🩶

That beautiful grey, weathered look you see in reclaimed barn siding isn’t limited to one particular species of wood.

Grey weathering is created by exposure. 🌦️☀️❄️

When wood spends years exposed to sunlight, rain, snow, humidity, and changing temperatures, the natural surface weathers and develops that distinctive silver-grey patina. The longer and more intensely the wood is exposed to the elements, the more character, texture, and variation it can develop.

That means grey weathered barn siding can come from many different wood species—each with its own grain, texture, color variation, and history.

🍄 MUSHROOM WOOD — A TEXTURE YOU CAN’T RECREATE 🌲

There’s reclaimed wood… and then there’s Mushroom Wood.

“Mushroom Wood” is the name given to a unique type of reclaimed lumber originally sourced from mushroom processing facilities. While its primitive, weathered appearance may make it look centuries old, its story is actually quite different.

These boards were used for the short-term process of curing mushrooms. During that process, the fungi slowly removed the early wood fibers, leaving behind an incredibly textured surface and rich, earthy-brown patina.

And honestly, words don’t do this material justice. The finished surface is one of the most striking and graphic wood textures you’ll find.

🌲 Hemlock is the wood most commonly favored for the process, creating a one-of-a-kind character that simply cannot be duplicated with new lumber.

There’s also something fascinating about the connection between wood and fungi. Science continues to uncover the complex relationship between trees and fungi beneath the forest floor — making Mushroom Wood an incredible reminder of how closely those two worlds are connected.

Because of its heavily textured surface, Mushroom Wood is especially popular for residential and commercial accent walls, ceilings, feature walls, and statement spaces.

Wh***ey Springs Flooring

Love the character and texture of authentic antique wood? Wh***ey Springs showcases the sawn texture and natural colors of the original antique board surface, while being precision milled for a beautiful, consistent installation.

The visible face is skip-planed across approximately 20% of the surface, preserving the unique character of the original boards.

✨ A variety of finishing options — from no sanding, to burnishing with an abrasive pad, to light drum sanding with 100-grit sandpaper.

🌿 Because the surface is not fully milled, some uneven seams and over-wood may occur. These can be spot-sanded as needed to soften sharp edges.

We’re also happy to work directly with your installer or finisher to discuss the best procedures for this unique flooring style.

As always, we recommend the least glossy finish possible to preserve the natural beauty and character of the wood.

Berkshire Blend is an unspecified blend of mostly Northern hardwoods reclaimed from barns, houses, and commercial buildings. Depending on the batch, it may include hard maple, soft maple, birch, beech, poplar, ash, elm, hickory, hackberry, cherry, locust, and other reclaimed hardwood species.
