If torque is what you’re measuring, do you know how much tension your bolts are actually getting?
Only around 10–15% of applied torque becomes tension, creating the clamp force that holds the joint together. The remaining 85–90% is lost to friction under the bolt head, in the threads and between mating surfaces.
That means bolts tightened to the same torque can still end up with very different tension, leaving your critical bolted connections at risk of unexpected failure and unplanned downtime.
SmartBolts® help maintenance teams verify actual bolt tension at a glance through our patented Visual Indication System™. Red means loose. Black means tight.
Torque tells you what was applied. Tension tells you what is holding the joint together. SmartBolts make it clear.
