Target has some very pretty Christmas pieces this year, but for me, there is just something about making my own that makes the holidays feel special.

This is one of the easiest projects and all it required was digging around in my craft and Christmas bins for a few items.

I pulled out an older tree that I have had for a long time, some stems that I use for cutting (ones that I am not using in arrangements and I have already cut apart for other projects) and some faux fruit.

Also, I always see tons of these little trees at the thrift store this time of year as well as bags of faux fruit. Even if you don’t have these items at home, you could make this for very little.

I had the sugared apples but I made a few more sugared or “frosted” fruit pieces using Stacie Moore tutorial she had shared last year. So simple to do. Just add a layer of Mod Podge, sprinkle on the baking soda and glitter mixture and let them dry. You can brush off the excess once they are dry.

I used floral wire to hang everything on the tree and added a gingham ribbon!

I think this little tree looks so cozy in the crock and it will fit in perfectly with my cottagecore Christmas this year.

There are many things to love about a new build home and then there are some challenges too. Like bringing in character. Making the new feel old, lived-in, and welcoming.
I have spent the last 7.5 years trying to bring some charm into our home and make it feel like a cozy little cottage.

If you are looking for simple and affordable ways to add charm to your home using thrifted treasures, handmade decor and a few antiques too, I am so glad you found your way here! I hope you will follow along, make yourself at home here and stay a while!

Two of my favorite cozy spaces in our home…

Our little cottage backyard and our cozy cottage bedroom.

It is no secret around here that flowers make my heart sing and I would spend all day out here in the garden if I could. The weather has been perfect in MD lately and I have been working on making fall flower arrangements and enjoying every minute of it!

I always forget about sharing our bedroom. It is one of my favorite cozy spaces in our home. I love to mix different patterns, colors and textures in my home and our bedroom is a perfect example of that. There is nothing better than a cozy bed for the upcoming winter days.

A Handmade Christmas : DIY Christmas Memory Garland

Let me start by saying, no, I am not decorating my house for Christmas right now.

October is when I make all my handmade Christmas decor so I am ready to go for the holiday season.

In our home, the holidays are a time for remembering. Memories of past Christmases.
Loved ones who are no longer with us. Some
memories will make you laugh, some will tug on your heart strings.
Many of the traditions I have in my home came from the people you see pictured here.

Here is how I made the garland:
1. Measure your frames and print or cut photos to size. If printing from home, print on cardstock. You want your photos to be slightly smaller than the frame.
2. I used sticker photo frames ( The Paper Studio from Hobby Lobby).
3. I added Rub ‘n Buff to the frames to give them an antique look.
4. Punch two holes in the top of the frames for the ribbon.
5. Add the ribbon to the frames.

Maybe this holiday season, take some time to remember. Create something that tells your family’s story.

Thrifted find with a new purpose

There is nothing I love more than taking a find at the thrift store and reimagining its use.

I saw this $2 glass pumpkin and I thought, “How sweet would this be with some pretty fall flowers?!”

So I brought it home, cut a few flowers that I had left in my garden and paired them with these absolutely beautiful dahlias I got from a local farm.

Here is what’s in my arrangement
-Teddy bear sunflowers
-Dahlias
-Zinnias
-Basil for filler

Where would you style this pretty little arrangement?

🌿A cozy cottage backyard 🌿

I don’t know about you, but stills will always be my favorite. They let you take in the details of a space and linger just a bit.

A cozy cottage backyard was always a dream I had but it was constantly getting pushed to the bottom of the list. That’s the way it goes though, right?

When you are a homeowner, sometimes there are other things that take precedence.

Almost 8 years later, we finally were able to put together the vision I had for the backyard.
My cottage garden has evolved over the last 4 years and this side of our yard was the missing piece.

We had a pergola built over our patio. The awning we installed 2 years ago opens over the top of the pergola, providing more shade.

This outdoor sink is a dream. What I love about this design is that it uses a heavy-duty drain hose, similar to one that would be used for a pool pump. I just roll out the hose and the water I use from the sink drains into my garden and waters the plants over there. Spring planting is going to be amazing next year!

I have said this before, but home takes time. This project took a lot of planning and patience, as do most projects we do around our homes.
