KRAMPUS JUST GOT ME TO 800 SALES.
I cannot make this s**t up. 😂

Six years ago, I had absolutely NO idea that the weird things I was making would eventually turn into this.

800 times somebody looked at something I made with my own hands and said, “Yep. I want THAT weird s**t in my house.”
And apparently #800 looked at Krampus and said THAT ONE.
Of COURSE they did. 🦇

To every single person who has bought something, reviewed something, shared my work, came back for another piece, found me at a market and also ordered online, or let one of my strange little creations live in your home:

Today I spent my entire day in a building solving problems that had absolutely nothing to do with graphite, concrete, silver leaf, sewing, or whatever other s**t I decide to get into this week. 😂

And tomorrow morning I'm going right back. Oh dark 30, sharp.

So tonight?
I don't have a finished piece to show you. I don't have a profound creative exercise. I don't even know if I'm making anything.

But I did stop at a pile of pumpkins and take this picture because I liked the fu***ng pumpkins.

And apparently that's what my creative brain had to contribute today. 🎃😂
I'll take it.

This delightful little order is what interrupted my meeting today. 😂

I'm sitting in a meeting going over projects, talking autoclaves and sanitary lines and suddenly...
💲CHA-CHING!💲

My phone announces at the top of its lungs, to the entire room mind you, that someone bought something from my Etsy shop.
Everyone was momentarily distracted and just stared at me.

But then, nobody asked. I didn't explain.

We went back to architecture. 😂

And THIS is what you bought.
One of my concrete Hekate altar pieces. And luckily, I already had a really nicely poured one waiting for her new home.
So now I'm home, packing her up.

And this is your reminder that your creative life doesn't have to exist separately from your regular adult life.

Sometimes you're in a meeting.
Sometimes you're pouring concrete at 9:47 at night.
And sometimes the thing you made at 9:47 at night goes CHA-CHING! while you're sitting in a meeting.

BUT THAT'S THE POINT!!

Keep making the weird s**t... OR cool s**t. Or your flavor of art.

Yeah, I know exactly who I'm talking to.

You did the job. The commute. The laundry. The dishes. The errands. The emails. You fed everybody. You discovered the dog has apparently been running a sophisticated treat-fraud operation between multiple adults.

And somehow, when everything finally gets quiet, and you find that tiny moment of calm, there's still a little voice in your head going:..I wanna make something.

You are my kind of human. A creative.

I'm not here to tell you to quit your job, wake up at 5 a.m., monetize your hobbies or restructure your entire existence around being creative. Absolutely NOT, that would suck the fun out of it.

I want you to build a creative life inside the life you already have.

Notice when something catches your attention. Follow your curiosity. Go see the weird thing. Save the stupid idea. Make something just because you wondered what would happen.

And when you've only got a little bit of the day left?
Give me 2%.
Thirty minutes.
You'd be amazed what your hands can do with that.

Creativity doesn't owe you inspiration just because you finally found 30 free minutes.

And I think that's where a lot of us get stuck.
We wait until we know what we want to make. Until we feel inspired. Until the idea is good enough. Until our brain cooperates. Until we're reasonably confident we aren't about to f**k the whole thing up. 🤮

Meanwhile, creativity is built in the showing up.

Tonight my brain was SCRAMBLED because I crashed at 3pm in the office from sleeping like garbage and had to take the office on a short walk to grab a chai tea. I didn't particularly want to explain myself or look at another Submittal. I didn't have some profound artistic revelation waiting for me.

But I had this photograph... and I started the art a few days ago. I remembered standing there at the top of this cemetery, looking out over it. They're so gorgeous aren't they?

And this whole series is reimagining things I've seen and been to and maybe only studied into these gorgeousflashes that imbed into your mind in passing.

Pencil became Micron. Micron became 8B. I made choices. I omitted things. I made one VERY aggressive black angel decision and briefly wondered what the f**k I had done. 😂
..then I kept going.
And THAT is creative discipline to me.

Not forcing yourself to produce something brilliant every day.
Not knowing exactly where you're going before you begin.
Showing up often enough that you learn to trust yourself when you don't know yet.

Tonight, this is where I stop. The adhesive is drying. The silver leaf can wait.

Tomorrow I'll respond to whatever this little creation asks for next.

Because you know I like trying out new things ... I stumbled into pieces. Basically it's a little 2.5"x3.5" size that you can EASILY spend 30mins doodling. And of course that's exactly what I keep asking you to steal back from your day.

And you KNOW I love putting 2% of my day back into ME.

So I started to form a language of lightning on paper... With micron and pencil. And a little leftover silver leaf from some previous concrete sculptures because.... that's why. Keeping my life a little more sane each day.

And so my only needs to be big enough to get a thought out. This one happens to be a very fun sketch of the Chatham Bridge in Fredericksburg.

Go make something tiny. Tonight, you only need to make something 2.5"x3.5". You're welcome.
