These two came out so different from what I expected! The texture on the first one looks like some kind of antique corroded metal because of the way the glaze blistered. Some might consider that a flaw, but I truly think it only enhances the visual interest of the piece. Let me know what you think!

Really excited about my new shelves and beginner glazemaking setup. It seems well past time to develop my own glazes so I'm no longer reliant on expensive commercial options that don't necessarily fit my needs or my clay body. Other potters, I'd love to hear any tips in the comments! Also, please say hi to my senior studio assistant, Mogget.

Lamb Jar in progress.

Raku clay is annoying to sculpt with--all the grog in the body makes for gritty texture and difficulty achieving detail. You go to smooth a piece and a big chunk of grit comes out and leaves a divot... it's a pain. On the other hand, because perfection is impossible with this clay, it's good practice in stopping when you've done enough and avoiding endless overwork.

Had to pull this one out of the kiln at 1630F after I started running out of propane. Luckily the glaze had matured enough, and even luckier, none of these little lugs fell off in the reduction barrel. Still a work in progress--I'll be adding a net of silk cord across the top. Final photos to come soon 🪽
