How this began...
Chestnut Market is my new adventure!! I am a nurse by trade. I’ve worked in the nursing field for 28 years. One day, on a Tuesday in February I came down town to shop in a store called, Yankee Peddler West. It was an antique store. I have always loved “old” things and love to decorate my home with these finds. I have been in this store a million times over the years and this particular day I heard the owner say to another customer that he was in the medical field many years ago...and I thought, “hmmm, wonder what he did?” As I’m checking out this gentleman kindly asked me if I was off work today and where did I work at. I replied that I work at an OB/GYN office through the hospital. He asked if I was from around here and I told him that I grew up in North Bend, NE. He said, “I use to work with a guy from there, maybe you know him”. He said his name is Dale Kinney. I replied, “That’s my dad!”. I asked him, “who are you?”. He said my name is Vince O’Connor. I recognized his name from growing up as my dad was on the hospital board for many year. Vince was the president of the hospital at that time. We instantly struck up a easy conversation. I asked him how he went from that career to this? He said that he had come down the this very building one day to shop. It was a gift store at the time. He told the owner that if she ever puts the building up for sale to call him. Well, several months later she called. And he bought it. I kept thinking to myself...”hmmmm”. As I was walking out and turned around and said to Vince, “hey, you ever put this place up for sale give me a call!”. He immediately said, “we are going to sell”. Well....3 hours later....I spoke with him and his wife...question after question after question. I left thinking...could I do this? Have a shop?? Is this crazy?? Is this possible?? After months of soul searching, researching my husband and I bought this 100 year old 3 story building. I named it Chestnut Market. I grew up on Chestnut Street in North Bend....HOME. That’s the mission of Chestnut Market...surround yourself with things you love, whether it’s old or new. Chestnut Market has home decor again, old and new, holiday decor, cancer support corner which supplies headwear for cancer patients.
That’s the story...that’s how this came to be..I love it!! Come down and check it out!!
