A&M Flooring and Design Center People Choice Award #1 Best Flooring Store 25 Years Straight Fresno Finest Floor Crafters Since 1940 A & M does more than sell flooring.

Since 1940

A & M Flooring and Design Center has been meeting customer expectations since 1940, when Alex and Morris Horwitz opened a small furniture and carpet store on Belmont Avenue. Since that time, the family-owned and operated business has expanded to include carpet, ceramic & porcelain, hardwood, vinyl, laminate, area rugs and window coverings. A goal of A & M Flooring, president and owner, Steve Kellogg, believes "Flooring is one of the top purchases that a family can make, so we take very seriously that we meet the consumer's expectations. We are a leader in the carpet market and now there are more styles with more durability and people can have more fun with carpet than they used to have." It has ties to the community as a sponsor of Tree Fresno and the American Heart Association. A & M is the 2013 People's Choice award winner for flooring with the Fresno Bee. It is also a member of the Fresno and Clovis Chambers of Commerce and the Better Business Bureau. The company is environmentally conscientious and sells "green" products that are sustainable and recyclable and has won awards for zero-waste recycling. A & M is also one of the very few companies in the valley that recycles all the carpet we remove, diverting over one million pounds of carpet from ending up in landfills every year.

Did you know the color of your kitchen floor can actually affect how hungry you feel? 🤔

Color psychology in interior design is real, and floors play a bigger role than most people think.

🌿 Warm wood tones like this honey oak are associated with comfort, appetite, and a welcoming atmosphere. No coincidence that so many great kitchens use them.

❄️ Very cool or stark floors can make a kitchen feel clinical and less inviting, even when everything else is beautifully designed.

🍂 Earthy, natural tones in particular have been shown to make people feel more relaxed and at ease in a space.

Your kitchen floor sets the emotional temperature of the room before anyone even starts cooking. Something worth thinking about. 💡

October is prime time for kitchen projects, and one question we hear a lot is: what floor actually holds up in a kitchen long term? 🤔

Here's what matters most in this room specifically:

🍳 Comfort underfoot. You stand here for long stretches. Materials with a little give, like LVP or cushioned tile, make a real difference over time.

💧 True waterproofing. Kitchens see spills constantly. Water resistant is not the same as waterproof. Know which you're getting before you buy.

🌡️ Stability. Kitchens experience heat, humidity, and temperature changes. Materials that expand and contract significantly can cause problems over time.

🧹 Ease of cleaning. Grout lines, texture, and finish all affect how easy the floor is to maintain day to day.

Fall is the season that finally gives you permission to go deep and rich with your interiors. 🍂🌿

A jewel-toned chair. A vintage rug with history in every thread. Warm wood floors visible just at the edges, grounding the whole composition.

This is what layering looks like when it's done with intention. And the secret is that the floors don't have to be the showstopper. Sometimes their job is to be the quiet backdrop that makes everything else look like it belongs.

If you've been thinking about a sitting room, reading corner, or formal living refresh this fall, October is the time. 🍁

There is something deeply satisfying about a room that leans all the way into the season. Warm textures, earthy tones, the kind of layering that makes you want to cancel your plans and stay right here. 🍂

The light herringbone floors in this space do exactly what a great floor should do. They let everything on top of them shine without competing. The rug, the furniture, the seasonal touches, all of it reads as intentional because the foundation is solid.

What's your fall decorating style? Bold and cozy or minimal and warm? 🧡

Fall is the season that finally gives you permission to go bold. 🤩

The lighter, breezier aesthetic of summer starts to give way to something richer. Deeper tones. Warmer textures. Spaces that feel like they were designed to stay in.

The table is set. The leaves are turning. The season is here. 🍂🏡

There's something about a dining room in September that feels different from any other month. The windows start showing color outside. The light gets warmer. And suddenly this room becomes the center of the home again.

Light floors like these do something important in a space like this. They keep everything feeling fresh and open even as the palette outside gets richer and moodier. 🤎

Did you know the herringbone pattern has been used in flooring for over 2,000 years? 🤯🪵

It first appeared in ancient Roman roads and has been a symbol of sophisticated craftsmanship ever since. It showed up in the grand estates of 16th century France, carried through to Victorian-era homes, and now it's one of the most sought-after patterns in modern interior design.

The reason it endures is simple: the angled, interlocking pattern is structurally strong, visually dynamic, and works in almost every design style from traditional to ultra-modern. 🙌

There's a moment every September when the light shifts and suddenly all you want is a cozy corner to disappear into. 📖

A good book. A soft blanket. A chair by the window that feels like it was made for exactly this.

Carpet makes those moments even better. It's quiet underfoot, warm in the morning, and turns an ordinary room into the kind of space you actually want to spend time in. 🍂
