A little housekeeping, friends.

Happy Creek Antiques will be closed this weekend, Friday June 12 through Sunday June 14, while we slip away for a wedding. Every treasure will still be here waiting when we get back.

We will be back to our regular hours the following weekend, opening Friday, June 19.

Turn your sound up for this one.

Hot off the press at the Happy Creek Gazette: last week the Brothers Young wandered into the shop, and one of them spotted our old upright, sat right down, and played. We are so glad he did. The man can play.

Turns out the old girl is still in surprisingly good tune. A few dead keys, a whole lot of character. Exactly how we like things around here.

This is what happens when you slow down and wander a shop full of stories. You never know what you will find, or who you will hear.

We gathered the lanterns together, a whole shelf of them lined up in the front window where the afternoon light catches the old glass.

Railroad lanterns, barn lanterns, the kind that hung by a back door and got carried out to check on the animals one last time before bed. Every one of them spent its life being somebody's small circle of light in the dark.

There is something fitting about that. Right next door, Debbie's Lighthouse is doing the very same thing for our neighbors, lighting the way for folks who need a hand. Old lanterns, same idea.

It started simple. Folks come in and ask Donnie or Julie, "Do you have...?" Sometimes we do. When we do not, that piece does not just disappear. It goes on the list, and the hunt is on.

Customer Corner is that running wish list, the treasures our customers are looking for. Every so often we will post it right here, because here is the secret: sometimes the very thing someone has been searching for is sitting in your barn, your attic, or your grandmother's hutch.

If you haven't yet....Meet Donnie!

You may have wandered through Happy Creek Antiques and wondered who has the eye for all of this, it is him. Julie's dad, our resident treasure hunter, and the man happiest when he is chasing down a good find or talking someone into a fair deal.

Lately he is on a clocks kick. Wall clocks, windups, cuckoo clocks, the whole lot, and you will usually catch him at the counter with one in pieces, coaxing it back to life.

Come say hi, and ask him what he found this week. Fair warning: he loves to tell the story.

Someone wandered in this week, took a slow look around, and slipped right into a memory. Their grandmother kept a shop a lot like ours, and the two of them spent every weekend out hunting for the next good find.

That is the thing about these pieces. A wind-up clock, a worn cast-iron skillet, a stack of old postcards, and suddenly you are a kid again, tagging along behind someone you loved.
