Did you know that my grandfather studied interior design via correspondence course?! I didn't until I started taking my classes online. Papaw Max and Mamaw Louise were always supportive of our creative endeavors. They encouraged us grandkids to use our imaginations and to have fun! They would keep disposable cameras on hand for us to take on our adventures in the backyard. They told us to take photos of anything that looked interesting, special, or pretty. Most of the photos featured flowers, animals, or each other. They would act like we were the best photographers in the world. On one occasion a piece of moldy bread was the subject but I don't remember which of us took that one.
My grandmother gave me all of my grandfather's La Salle books and his submitted work. It has been so fun to see how he thought about design and color. Even though he didn't get to work in design, I wanted to find a way to pay homage to his efforts and goals. I can so clearly see in my head a photo of him in his blue coveralls standing outside my great grandmother's house. So I ordered blue coveralls and asked a couple of cousins to go on another adventure.
But y'all, I have been looking for that specific photo of him for months. If it wasn't for two other people saying they remember it too, I would think I made it up. But we don't live in a perfect world and I'm excited to share this story. Who knows, maybe I'll find the right photo later.
