MAN FINDS MISSING PROSTHETIC LEG AT 127 YARD SALE — TURNED INTO LAMP

A Danville man says a family tradition took a bizarre turn Saturday morning after he located his missing prosthetic leg at the 127 Yard Sale — crafted into a lamp.
Bobby Bogard, 58, of Danville, says he was partaking in what he calls a yearly family tradition, browsing the 127 Yard Sale, which stretches hundreds of miles from Michigan to Alabama, when he stumbled across a familiar sight.
“I turned the corner and there it was — my dang leg that I’d lost months ago, turned into a dag gone lamp like the one from A Christmas Story,” said Bogard.
Bogard says the prosthetic went missing in April 2026 after he accidentally left it on top of his 2006 Toyota Solara following a trip to the Danville Walmart. He says he didn’t realize his mistake until arriving home.
After retracing their route several times, Bogard and his wife, Suzanne, turned to local community pages hoping someone had found the missing limb. Their efforts came up empty.
That was until this weekend.
Bogard says he immediately recognized the prosthetic sitting on a vendor’s table, complete with a lampshade and the same New Balance 624 V2 walking shoe he had been wearing when the leg disappeared. Things became even more suspicious when he noticed the vendor staring at the matching shoe Bogard was wearing on his remaining foot.
“I played it cool. I went up to his table and asked how much for the lamp. He stuttered, started sweating and finally gave me a price of $125,” Bogard said. “Then he went into this big backstory about how it was the prosthetic leg of a Civil War soldier and all this nonsense, which I knowed was BS because it was my dang leg and it’s got a ‘Made in China’ stamp right by the knee.”
Bogard says the vendor insisted his grandfather had crafted the lamp many years ago and claimed it was difficult to part with, but that he had recently fallen on hard times.
That’s when Bogard says his patience began running thin — and Suzanne stepped in.
“Boy, she let into that fella. Gave him a tongue-lashin’ that I’m glad I wasn’t getting,” Bogard joked.
According to Bogard, Suzanne eventually snatched the lamp from the table, and the couple headed home with the long-lost prosthetic.
Despite the unusual circumstances surrounding its recovery, Bogard says he has no plans to turn it back into a functioning leg. A replacement prosthetic was already on the way, so the couple decided to embrace its new purpose.
The lamp now proudly sits at the end of their basement bar.
“I’m not gonna lie, there was honestly some real craftsmanship put into that lamp,” Bogard said. “He even cleaned the shoe up a bit. It’s definitely a conversation starter when folks come over.”
