The Burb Edit has been BUSY this fall. And I mean ridiculously busy.

Multiple à la carte orders every single weekend, and honestly? I LOVE IT.

I think one of my favorite things about this little corner of the business is how much trust people put in me. They want beautiful flowers, they have a budget they’re comfortable with, and beyond a little direction, they’re happy to let me do my thing.

And let me tell you, that is a VERY fun place to be as a floral designer.

I get to play with whatever incredible things are blooming locally that week, try combinations I might not otherwise have thought of, and send flowers out into the world knowing they’re going to be part of someone’s celebration.

From bouquets to DIY buckets and everything in between, it’s been such a joy seeing how many people have embraced The Burb Edit: À La Carte.

And to everyone who’s handed me a little direction and a whole lot of trust this fall, thank you. I’m having an absolute blast.

But in my defense, you don’t put this many flowers on someone’s head, hand the whole thing over to Kaci, and then casually move on with your life.

When your favorite friendor stops being a vendor and asks you to flower her wedding, the pressure is ON.

Alex spent years in this industry. She knows the venues. She knows the vendors. She’s seen a LOT of weddings.

So when she and Brian asked me to design theirs, I didn’t just want to make something beautiful. I wanted to give them something that felt unmistakably them.

They love cities. They love to travel. They love being outside. Brian literally makes a living working with landscapes, and Alex has always had an eye for beautiful things that still feel real.

So somewhere in my brain, this idea happened:

What if nature just…grew right through the middle of the city?

A tree. On a sidewalk. In DC. Covered in flowers.

A little weird. A little retro. Maybe a tiny bit Dr. Seuss if I’m being honest.

But completely theirs.

And against that ridiculously good wall? Come on.

There is something extra special about designing for someone who has spent years standing beside you in this industry. Someone who knows how much work goes into making these days look effortless.

Alex, getting to be on this side of a wedding with you was an absolute honor.

And Brian, thanks for letting us put a tree on a sidewalk.

October came in like a big bang.

All that color. All that flower. Everything turned all the way the hell up.

And somehow, underneath all of it, there’s this softness I can’t get over.

Because by all accounts, this should be too much. It’s huge. It’s ridiculous. It takes up an absolutely unreasonable amount of space.

And yet, look at her.

There’s something so damn good about that contradiction. About being bold without being hard. Taking up space without having to shout. Being soft without making yourself small.

Maybe we’ve been sold this idea that we have to choose.

Loud or quiet.
Strong or soft.
Big or gentle.

Nah.

Give me the explosion AND the quiet.

Give me softness that takes up the whole damn frame.

And apparently, give me more flowers than any human being should reasonably wear on their head.
