Honoring ceramic artist Freda le Prévost today--hand builder extraordinaire, and my mother!
Freda, named after Haitian vodou goddess Erzulie, and the inspiration behind Erzulie Ceramics, introduced me to the craft when I was a little girl. We spent hours coiling clay together to build these large, intricate, forms. I'd watch my mother work and find zen through her intimate relationship with clay, and ultimately found myself in the same relationship with this incredible natural medium 🤲🏽
Featured here are two large vases, the first in raw terra cotta stands 20 inches tall. The second, a large glazed vase inspired by the sea--notice the two fishtails joining together 🐟

Erzulie set, White over Speckled Clay 🤲🏽
Holidays are a serious time suck. And speaking of time sucks, I can unfortunately no longer accept commissions. I am still working on past custom orders, but this takes a lot of my time away from the creative process. I got to a point where I was just fulfilling requests and not actually creating anything new. I'm sorry to disappoint, but I've learned that this is unsustainable. This is what building a brand is all about!--accepting that you can't please everyone if you want to find your voice. After a very much needed holiday hiatus, I'm back baybay! Thank you to all who have commissioned work from me over the past year. You know who you are, and you've helped me grow so much! Cool projects to share in the coming weeks. Keep your eyes & hearts open 🌻

Just got back from a whimsical place where the green is lush, the leaves are larger than my body, and the jungle world around it is sun-drenched, hydrated, alive & happy. Inspired to create more homes for our green friends.

Tea set commission for herbalist extraordinaire -- tea sets are fun but challenging because of the many parts that go into the final piece. The lid, handle, and spout need to be handcrafted separately, then attached later when the clay pot is at optimal dryness 🤲🏽
