Christopher Patrick Interiors

Christopher Patrick Interiors Christopher Patrick Interiors feels that the best design comes about when the designer and the client embark on a journey together.

Inspiration for the ideal room, the unique piece of furniture, or illusive paint color doesn’t come from just one source, but is instead gathered from the world around us. With an eye for understated sophistication, Christopher Patrick Interiors believes that truly remarkable interiors interpret traditional design principles in new and unexpected ways. When designing a client’s home, the Christoph

er Patrick Interiors team hopes to take our clients on an adventure from the first floor plan to the last light fixture. Whether the adventure takes us from a garage sale in rural Pennsylvania to an estate sale in Washington, DC to a boutique in Georgetown to a well-known statement brand, each journey is different, as is each home, and everyone, no mater the size of the project, has the right to good design.

When asked to describe Don Ripper, my immediate response was, “modern day renaissance man”.

While this may seem a bit cliche, it does truly describe Don. Charismatic and charming, he’s a father, a entrepreneur, and an amazing artist.

Don dabbles in many mediums, but his oil paintings are some of CPI’s favorite. Check out his IG for more of his amazing work.

What’s your design style?

When people hear that I’m a designer, that’s usually the first question out of their mouths. It’s a totally valid question, but when working with clients I’m more inclined to figure out what their design aesthetic is more-so than push my aesthetic onto them. It can be challenging at times, so many decisions. In the right hands, however, a designer will pull out your aesthetic balanced with classic design principles to create a space that feels like home.

Once in a while though, my client’s vision and my aesthetic meld so beautifully and we create a space that does reflect my “style”…in this case bachelor pad chic.

Thanksgiving is only 27 weeks away!!

Why is that important? Because most of us, after a year of being cooped up in our homes, are ready to travel for summer and that’s where our minds are focused. What most of us might not realize is that furniture shipping times are running anywhere between 16-20 weeks. So, if you’re planning on hosting Thanksgiving this year and you’re looking to update your space, let’s talk now, so we can get everything done in time.

So, you’ve purchased a new home...now what?!

Lots of people are eager to get started on remodeling and decorating right away. If it’s at all possible, I recommend to wait 6 months to a year living in your new space to understand what you want/need. However, sometimes that’s just not possible; in that case I believe hiring a professional is your best bet.

Understanding how you want a space to feel and function becomes my priority when working with new homeowners. This often dictates the furniture layout, what I consider to be the “map” of our project. From there I am able to create a design concept that incorporates my client’s aesthetic...often with a little push of the envelope for good measure.

Take this dining room from one of my favorite projects. The client wanted to be able to entertain up to 8 guests comfortably, so we created an expandable dining table. She wanted wine storage, so we incorporated a wine cooler in the customs buffet. I wanted drama, so we painted the whole space a rich color and added a 9’ tall custom china cabinet. Check out the before and after. 📸:

Getting ready to remodel your bathroom and don’t know where to start? I often recommend clients share with me some of their favorite hotel baths and spas.

I find that bathrooms often factor in a few different elements that dictate the aesthetic.

How does it make you feel? Clients often share with me that they want a spa-like experience.

How does it relate to your existing home? In DC, with so many historic homes, speaking to the history in a new renovation can be a jumping off point.

Is it easy to clean? Wether or not you’re doing it yourself, a clean bathroom is a beautiful bathroom. Selecting finishes (like grout) that will withstand dirt and grime make a huge difference in how your bathroom holds up over the years.

Kitchens have been a staple here at CPI. Having started in design/build I’m familiar with the renovation process and kitchen and bathrooms are number 1 on that list.

I’m frequently presented with the question about the “white kitchen”. We all want to get our money’s worth when undertaking such a large investment, but will a white kitchen go out of style? Has it already?

While trends are leaning away from white kitchens in preference to warm woods or the polar opposite (the black kitchen). My thought is that a white kitchen is classic, and will not go out of style. Choose classic finishes and you’ll have a kitchen that looks as good in 10 years as it does when you finish your remodel.

The cherry blossoms are in full swing downtown. Now, I wouldn’t suggest cutting any from around the Tidal Basin, but snag some from you local florist to add drama and color to your home. A few branches go a long way. Fresh flowers (or flowering branches) are one of my favorite things to spruce up interiors. 📸:
