You might have seen the term superwash on yarn labels and wondered what it means. Superwash wool has been treated to make it machine washable—great for convenience, but the process isn't as gentle as it sounds.

✨ How It Works:
Traditional superwash wool undergoes:

- A chlorine bath to dull the tiny scales on the wool fibers (the ones that cause felting).
- A plastic-based resin coating to smooth and seal the fiber surface.

This stops the wool from felting in the wash—but it also means the yarn has been heavily processed and is no longer biodegradable in the way untreated wool is.

🌿 Why It Matters:
If you’re trying to make more sustainable crafting choices, it’s worth knowing how your yarn is made. While superwash is practical, it comes with environmental trade-offs.
We choose to keep things natural: no superwash, no plastic coatings, and no harsh chemicals—just pure, beautiful fiber, the way nature intended. 💚
