We’re irrigating this week to help our lawns power through this heat wave!

Our preferred method is to water deeply, but only once a week. Irrigate in the morning or early evening so that turf is dry before sunset.

A modest watering of 1/2” or so will help cool season lawns endure the last heat wave of summer. 🤞🤞

A new lawn tells you a lot - if you take the time to look!

On this first visit, the biggest issue wasn’t just crabgrass. The pattern told the story: the heaviest pressure was in the full-sun portion of the lawn, while the shaded areas were holding much better turf.

Add in roughly ¾” of thatch buildup, and the fall plan starts to become pretty clear.

For now: feed the turf, target the w**ds that actually need treatment, and avoid unnecessary blanket applications.

Next up: core aeration, overseeding with seed matched to the site conditions, and a fall rebuild designed to give the existing turf a much better chance to compete.

Part 2 coming in September. 🌱

One month in - and we’re already moving in the right direction. 🌱

This lawn didn’t need a quick fix. It needed a long term rehabilitation plan.

On our second visit, we started by scouting what changed since July, what responded to the first treatment, and what still needed attention. From there, we adjusted the approach: targeted w**d control where needed and nutrition to keep building thicker, healthier turf.

Because long-term lawn care isn’t just about killing w**ds.

It’s about growing better grass.

Progress takes time, but when every visit builds on the last one, you start stacking results.

Ready for battle! ⚔️🫡

After all this rain, your lawn is probably looking a little out of control. Don’t punish it for growing. 🌱

In August, cutting an overgrown lawn too short all at once can create unnecessary stress - especially when the heat and humidity return.

Follow the 1/3 rule, keep it a little taller for now, and gradually work the mowing height back down over the next 2–3 weeks.

All this rain gave our cool-season lawns a valuable resource. Good mowing practices now can help us carry that moisture, and a healthier lawn, into September.

Long is OK right now. Healthy is the goal.

Watch this one before you rush out for the next mow. 🌱

Hidden steps and tips for beautiful, healthy shrubs! 🌲✂️

Rainy morning, hot and humid afternoon. Spent today giving this mature landscape some attention. 🌿✂️

The ornamental tree needed deadwood removed, crossed branches corrected, and the canopy cleaned up. The mature boxwoods just needed careful trimming to tighten up their shape without losing the form they’ve developed over the years.

Nothing dramatic - just thoughtful maintenance and attention to the details.

Another beautiful Galesburg property looking a little sharper. 🏡

Yew know we had to come back for Part 2. ✂️🌿

Back at this beautiful Galesburg Tudor today, this time cleaning up the other side of the front entrance. Four yews shaped up and looking sharp again.

My weapon of choice today - STIHL HS46 C-E.
