I was raised on Galveston Island and grew up surfing and spending a lot of time on the beach with my family and friends. I moved away for my education, studied abroad, and enjoyed traveling abroad. I have lived and worked in the Hill Country ever since. The Island has called me back home! Growing up in Galveston, I was always saddened by the amount of plastic bottles and waste that litter our beac
hes. I experienced the same when I moved to San Marcos for school where the river was my refuge. I love the beach, I love the river, I love wildlife and I am in awe of what Mother Earth has to offer! Over time and through my travels abroad, I have learned about the positive impact some other areas and countries are making to combat the damage of our environment. My journey to change began and I started looking at my own lifestyle and realized how much I was buying in the form of single-use plastic that would eventually end up in the garbage! I had so many plastic bottles for unnecessary different products and some that were full of harmful chemicals. Not only was I buying my own trash to just throw away after a few uses, but also using products that were questionable with the effect they had on me and the environment. Yes, I recycled, but even with that, I wasn't sure exactly where that was going. I made a commitment to try to reduce waste in my life, find a more sustainable solution and stop paying for my trash. I began by eliminating unnatural and harmful chemicals from my own home, recycling, repurposing, composting and little by little, adding more to my commitment by making some of my own natural products, reusable bags and growing my own vegetables. Refill shops are not a new concept, but they are sparse. It dawned on me that there was not one on or near my beloved Island of all places! My mission is to bring my neighbors in Galveston (and beyond) a way to help our Mother Earth by reducing single-use plastic and providing environmentally friendly, all natural, chemical-free, eco-friendly products that are good for the earth and good for you. Products are either refillable, biodegradable or container free. I invite YOU to join me on the refillery project. Love, Danielle
