For generations, the Diné (Navajo) have created intricate weavings, each with a special meaning. The artists of today continue to honor and build on this cultural tradition, designing beautiful works of art using practices passed down since time immemorial. Learn more about Navajo culture and the art of weaving with Diné Trader Wallace James Jr and Diné weaver Tonita Yazzie at our special Hubbell Trading Post event at the White Sands National Park visitor center, 9 AM to 5 PM.

Dine College Land Grant Office will host a Sheep to Loom Weaving Series at Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site from March 9 to 13, 2026, for ages 10-19. This five-day event teaches Navajo weaving, livestock care, and inspires youth to continue the tradition. Supplies are provided, and registration is free on a first-come, first-served basis for 10 students. Hubbell Trading Post National Historic Site invites everyone to attend a Navajo Shoe Game, Késhjéé, scheduled for Friday, February 6th at the Visitor Center from 6:00 pm to 10:00 pm.

Hosted by Miss Kaydence Yazzie, this free event aims to provide a fun and educational experience, allowing participants to learn the game for the first time or brush up on the songs and skills you already have, this is intended to be a fun educational opportunity with no money or betting involved.
