I've been collecting Kane County items for twenty years, and believe me when I tell you that this publication only RARELY comes up for sale. I've never even seen an intact set, and it's not for lack of looking. A full set of all nine parts is all-but-impossible to find, and if one could be located, it would easily sell for $450 or more. This is Part 1 of 9, and dates to 1916. It's "Art Work of Kane County Illinois" by the Gravure Illustration Company. It measures 10 1/2" x 13 3/4" in size, and shows high-quality images of the Fox River, scenes from Riverbank [Fabyan] Villa here in Geneva (including two images of the lighthouse), City Park, Lincoln Park, and West Park (all in Aurora), some Aurora residences (L. J. Mead, Lee Mighell) and a couple of pages of text covering local history.

Asking $50 obo. Local pickup here in Geneva.

Believe it or not, this New Home sewing machine still has its ORIGINAL owner's certificate from 1908! I looked up the serial number [2910510] and it was indeed made that very year by the New Home Sewing Machine Company of Orange, Massachusetts. This particular model has a gorgeous oak cabinet, and its original cast iron base. The machine itself is in great shape, and in the 1940s was retrofitted with a 1/2 horsepower Dayton Power Motor! The treadle was removed at that time. This machine has a drawer full of thread, and comes with its certificate, two authentic pieces of advertising, and the 1908 owner's manual! A stunning piece! Local pickup only (Geneva). Asking $350 obo.

Near-mint vintage wall calendar (1968) from Potter's store in LaFox, Kane County, Illinois. The store opened in 1860, and was purchased by Lemuel Potter in 1863. After more than 140 years of operation, the store closed permanently in January 2004. This calendar was in storage (in the store) for decades, and the color looks great! It would be perfect for anyone whose house was standing in 1968 (or built then) or with family members born that year. Or anyone from La Fox! Each month has pockets (see photo) which is unusual. The store was run by Maurice E. Potter that year. Asking $26 obo, with priority to first pickup (in Geneva). I can also meet you in Batavia or St. Charles. I also have several other years listed in the Etsy store (Kane County Vintage).

Near-mint vintage wall calendar (1961) from Potter's store in LaFox, Kane County, Illinois. The store opened in 1860, and was purchased by Lemuel Potter in 1863. After more than 140 years of operation, the store closed permanently in January 2004. This calendar was in storage (in the store) for decades, still has its original envelope, and the color looks great! This one will be listed in the Etsy store, but I have others that are unlisted, which are available for local pickup. Prices range from $18-40 per calendar.

This set of matching antique andirons are at least a century old, and are made of solid brass. They are in the Regency style, and have very nice urn-shaped finials, and claw-and-ball feet. The log rests can be adjusted a bit, and may be made of cast iron (they are quite heavy). They will look amazing after a polish, and were originally made for a fireplace, but they could really be used anywhere. The andirons are approx. 19" tall. They came from a (very) high-end property in St. Charles. Asking $180 obo, with priority to first pickup. Porch pickup in Geneva, or I can meet you in Batavia, St. Charles, or West Chicago.

SOLD! [original post follows:] This vintage hand-painted print of Pottawatomie Park in St. Charles and a part of the Fox River is a "Gray's Watercolor" and was "handpainted in the quality tradition of Currier & Ives" back in 1980. Gray's Watercolors was located in Ringoes, New Jersey, where they had a team of artists which "applied the watercolors to each print by hand." The matting around this print measures 11" x 14" in size, and it's ready to frame. A great piece of local art, perfect for anyone with ties to St. Charles. This one is by Hart Gray - I also have one of the Municipal Center by Davis Gray. This one dates to around 1980. Asking $35 obo, priority to first pickup. Porch pickup in Geneva.

This is a high-quality 20th century reproduction of Sir Henry Raeburn's "Portrait of Charles Christie, Esquire" which now resides in the Philadelphia Museum of Art. I believe that this is a textured giclée, and the colors in it look great. The frame is quite large, measuring approx. 27 1/2" wide and 33 1/2" tall. The piece is ready to hang, and would look great in any office, study, living room, hallway, library, or parlor. Or anywhere, really! Raeburn lived from 1756 to 1823, and created the original around 1800. Raeburn painted in the Romantic style, and was one of King George IV's portraitists. A sticker on the reverse of the piece indicates that it was once sold by Chelsea House of Gastonia, North Carolina (probably in the 1970s or '80s). Asking $245, with priority to earliest pickup. Porch pickup in Geneva, or I can meet you in Batavia, St. Charles, or West Chicago. Cross-posted.

Perfect for any golfer! This is an original antique cover of "Harper's Weekly" magazine from 31 July 1897. It shows the "Golf Story" cover by artist W. T. Smedley. The caption reads "I felt her seize my hand and shake it." This was professionally matted and framed by The Proud Fox Gallery & Frame Shop of St. Charles (now of Geneva) many years ago. The frame measures approx. 18" x 24". The frame alone is worth as much as the asking price. $75 obo, with priority to soonest pickup. I'm in Geneva but could meet you in Batavia or St. Charles. Cross-posted.
