It is with a broken heart that we let the Ohio antiques community know that Jane Hardy has passed away. Her obituary is below and we ask that you read you and share any stories of Jane that you might have. Thank you, from her loving children.

Amazing mother, devoted partner, loving grandmother, and longtime Geneva businesswoman Jane Hardy passed away peacefully on Saturday morning.

Jane is predeceased by parents Lillian and John Hardy, and her sister and brothers, Doris, Richard, and David, and her daughter Sarah Elek (Justin), all of whom she missed every minute since they left. She is also predeceased by longtime partner Willard Moore, whom she loved more than anything. She is survived by her children Eric (Michelle), Windy (Edward), and Russ (Sarah), and her grandchildren, Sophia, Kaleb, Isabella, Thad, Marshall, Eva, and Elena. She is also survived by Hunter Elek, her first grandchild, with whom she shared a deep love and bond.

Raised on a farm in rural Lake County, Jane’s passion for the outdoors never left her. She loved a good campfire, a stroll through the forest (in any season except winter), and creek-walking and crayfish hunting with her children and grandchildren.

She also loved a good project. Whether it was learning how to wire the addition on her home, restoring an antique, doing a puzzle with her family, refurbishing furniture, or helping her kids figure out their place in life, she was happiest when she was busy.

One of seven children, she had a deep appreciation for family, friends, humor, and animals… especially her pet birds Cricket and Sam, who loved her as much or more than her actual children.

She was also fiercely independent and driven. She strove hard to exceed expectations as a business owner, parent, and partner, and regularly met her own lofty goals.

Her work ethic was unmatched. She often worked three jobs to provide for her children. She was known regionally by antique aficionados for her amazing work repairing and refurbishing old furniture with “Neat Seats,” a side business she ran for more than 40 years. She also worked for a print shop for 30 years, ran a design and print business out of her home, and was the proprietor of both Tomorrow’s Antiques and Moore Antiques, establishments that served Downtown Geneva well for decades. Her children can only hope that they embody half of her attitude toward work and service.

In short, Jane Hardy was as amazing. She was kind, loving, and strong. As a parent, she was the epitome of what a kid would want, and was an amazing friend when we all grew up. She is immensely missed and loved by her children, family, and friends, and will be forever.

Calling hours will be Friday, January 2nd, from 4-6PM at Lake Erie Cremation & Funeral Services in Geneva. In lieu of flowers, please donate to HomeSafe, an organization that Jane supported at any opportunity she had: https://www.homesafeincac.org

In accordance with her wishes, her ashes will be spread in a private ceremony overlooking the Grand River, where she will be reunited with her brother Richard, whom she has never forgotten.

As many of you know, our namesake and my partner in life and in business, Willard Moore, passed away in November. Willard and I opened Moore Antiques almost 12 years ago, and we poured our lives into supporting the business. With him gone and my grandchildren growing, I've made the bittersweet decision to close Moore Antiques, effective today, July 31st! While my daughter insists that I am retiring, I've never been great at slowing down, and I am sure my friends in the antique community will still see me from time to time. (I'll also continue my chair caning business, Neat Seats, and will still sell independently through Marketplace and Ebay!)

I want to say thank you to everyone who supported our little antique store over the past decade, and to those who supported my first two locations in Downtown Geneva (then called Tomorrow's Antiques). Your support, love, and appreciation of the past have made this whole journey worth it.

Thank you again, and happy hunting,
Jane Hardy, Manager and Co-founder, Moore Antiques
