I’m, honestly, quite disappointed to open my insta and see a post like this, especially from someone in the community. , you should know how difficult it is to be a small business owner already without one of our own being part of the problem.
There is NOTHING “crap” about self-worth. Not in any situation or scenario. Self-worth is actually very important and something that should be celebrated and encouraged, especially in a place where you have a young audience that struggles with knowing their place in this world on an everyday basis, and if you sell plushies or plushie patterns…you have a young audience. And I know that your message wasn’t for them, and I’m sure that you think it’s not what you meant, but that is an extremely toxic message that should never be put out there for any reason. And on top of that, you decided to use it against your fellow crocheters and small business owners, who are simply out here just like you busting their behinds just doing the best they can.
This isn’t a cookie-cutter business or world for that matter. Everyone’s art is different, and everyone HAS the right to decide what their craft, time, and products are worth. No store owner owes a customer affordability. Making the statement you made just makes you sound entitled.
No one NEEDS a crochet pattern. Patterns are a luxury/entertainment item—they’re not food or water; no one needs them to survive. If you don’t agree with the price or you can’t afford it, then it’s quite simple…don’t buy it.
I tagged you and did this publicly because I don’t vague post, and I have enough respect for the person to address them directly; you didn’t even do that.
I’m going to give you some unsolicited advice, and you can take it or not; it won’t affect me in the least at the end of the day. Having a small business is an extremely difficult thing to do, and having a successful small business is even harder. If you don’t have a community supporting you and backing you up, odds are, you won’t make it too far. Ever heard the sayings “Don’t bite the hand that feeds you” or “Don’t sh*t where you sleep”? Basically that.
