🧺 What Goes Into the Price of a Handcrafted Basket?

Have you ever wondered how D&Co. determines the price of a woven product?

When you purchase a handcrafted basket, you're not just paying for the materials. You're also paying for time, skill, creativity and a whole lot of behind-the-scenes work.

At D&Co., we're constantly looking for ways to keep our products as affordable as possible while maintaining the quality and craftsmanship you've come to expect. And in today's economy, that can be a real challenge.

One of the biggest factors in the price of a woven product is TIME.

Some baskets can take more than an hour to make—and every minute matters.

That's where the creativity and ingenuity of our Workshop team come in. They're always looking for ways to make the weaving process more efficient without compromising the finished product.

Sometimes that means developing a form to help weavers create an open weave more easily. Other times it's finding a better way to dry a piece or developing a process to make a component more efficiently.

And here's something I love: the experts on the weaving floor are part of that process. The development team may come up with an idea, but they'll take it to the basketmakers and ask, “How can we make this better?”

Those conversations lead to improvements that save time—and ultimately help keep our prices as reasonable as possible.

So the next time you look at one of our baskets, remember that you're seeing much more than something that's been woven.

You're seeing the hands of a skilled basketmaker, the creativity of our development team, the ingenuity of our Workshop and countless hours of work that you may never see.

🍓 Life in the Kitchen

I grew up watching my grandmother cook three meals a day in her kitchen, and I still have an entire cookbook filled with her recipes. My mom carries on that tradition—she prepares a full meal almost every day, usually from scratch.

Me? Well… I definitely know my way around a kitchen, but spending hours every day preparing a big meal just isn't my thing! 😂 I'm much more of a snacker, and I love easy-to-fix meals and little bites that don't require a lot of fuss.
