We have all seen these rough-cut pieces around on line. Did you ever wonder what they were or if they really are chocolate molds? These pieces were made by The American Chocolate Company, New York for use in flat or tray molds (6-12 pieces in the flat) to allow the chocolatier to pour multiple pieces. The pieces would be trimmed down to fit in the flat and then soldered in place surrounded by a steel frame. Many of the pieces have a place to put a lollipop stick other do not and just made small chocolates. These loose pieces were never used, are unmarked and untrimmed but most of them are suitable for molding chocolate.

Are the antique Chocolate molds being reproduced?

Thought you’d enjoy some seasonal molds –All Hallows Eve or Halloween. The Hallo Cat, made by Laurosch, 4 pieces; Large witch made by Eppelsheimer; Jack-o-lantern made by Eppelsheimer; Skelton made by Eppelsheimer; medium witch made by American Chocolate; small witch made by Eppelsheimer; Jack -o-lantern made by American Chocolate and Owl made by Anton Reiche. Halloween was not as lucrative a holiday for Chocolatiers as Easter and Christmas so fewer of these molds were made making them much harder to find and more expensive.

my last four blogs we cover the important things to look for when buying a chocolate mold; condition, matched, material and marks. I hope that the information was a help. When you are looking at antique chocolate molds another question that comes up - Why is there such a difference in the prices of old chocolate molds? There isn't a simple answer but basically it comes down to subject, condition, age, size and desirability....
