After more than a decade of being uninhabited, 208 W Brown is finally ready to be called “home” again. This 1916 Sears and Roebuck house has been renovated to highlight the original charm of the time period while being updated to suit modern lifestyles. It was an honor to be in attendance at the official 100th birthday party to declare “Margie Kinslow Day” in Barren County. It has been an honor to call this special lady my friend and to be a recipient of her historical knowledge. Margie loves her family, loves the history of Barren County, loves living at Highland Ridge and she loves her country! I don’t take it lightly when she tells me that I am keeping history alive by renovating the West Brown Street house!! I just hope one day I can be half as awesome as Margie Kinslow!! Happy 100th Birthday, Margie!

Ok guys, I know y’all have been wondering what’s going on with the house. As all renovations seem to go, things speed up then slow down, and it’s an endless cycle. We finally have new plumbing, HVAC, electric, structural support, roof, siding, windows, and insulation!! It doesn’t look like that much but I can tell you A LOT has been going on!! It’s kind of a mess since they just did insulation today and we haven’t been by to clean but here are a couple progress pics on the inside…

Things are really starting to “shape up” on West Brown! The back addition has been framed up to create a seamless flow to the original structure. The upstairs back porch will now become an AMAZING master suite including a large walk-in closet with washer/dryer hookups, tiled shower, and the original clawfoot tub from the old bathroom! Oooo I’m getting so excited yall!! 😁

Looking back through some kitchen renovations to get ideas for the new kitchen on West Brown. What are some of y’all’s favorite kitchen features? And what could you live without?

Wood, white, or colored cabinets?
Natural stone vs manufactured products?
Brass, copper, black, silver finishes?
Stainless steel or colored appliances?
Island, peninsula, or other layout?

Removing this brick fireplace was like deconstructing the long lost 4th pyramid of Giza! Thanks to power team Dwayne Maggie Moseley for all their help thus far!

The top of the chimney was taken down years ago and roofed over, so it was not a functioning wood burning or gas fireplace anymore. The original facade had also been removed for a mid-century brick update. Now it has freed up some extra space both upstairs and downstairs! Can yall see the vision yet? We still have a ways to go! Get ready for some BIG changes in the next couple weeks!!
