Some things are just worth keeping.

When I chose this dress for my prom many years ago, I loved it so much that I kept it. I certainly wasn’t thinking that one day I would have a daughter who would wear it too, and if I’m being fair, I think Amber wore it better. 😊
Seeing her in it all these years later feels like a beautiful reminder of how things we treasure can take on an entirely new life when they’re passed from one generation to the next.
So this seems like the perfect time to introduce my daughter, Amber, to the Wilson Lee community. I’m incredibly proud of the woman she has become, and you’ll begin seeing a little more of her here.
Amber’s travels take her to some wonderful places around the world, and she has a great eye for the beautiful and interesting things she discovers along the way. She’ll be sharing some of those interiors, places, and finds with us, particularly as we continue developing the Gathered by Wilson Lee collection.
For today, though, this isn’t about business. It’s simply about a dress I loved enough to keep and the daughter who gave me an entirely new reason to love it.
And yes, Amber, you wore it better. ❤️

During a recent visit to Charlotte, North Carolina, I was enthralled by the Mint Museum. It is one of the Southeast’s premier art museums, but what makes it especially significant is that it combines American history, architecture, decorative arts, and world-class design collections in a way that few museums do. Even more remarkable, the original building was once a U.S. Mint.

Some of my favorite exhibits were the period furniture, fine ceramics and porcelain, silver, glass; especially the incredible exterior glass installation, historic interiors, and textiles for both fashion and interiors. MintMuseum

Every thoughtful space begins with thoughtful selections.

This week on the design table: coordinating rugs and fabrics for a primary bedroom designed to promote peace and tranquility, exploring luxury vinyl plank and wallcovering for a commercial environment, and beginning the color selection process with one of my favorite design tools, the Benjamin Moore Color Preview Index.

Every material, texture, and color is chosen with intention because Clarity, Balance & Beauty® begins long before the final installation.

Which design decision do you think has the greatest impact on how a space feels: color, texture, or pattern?

Before a room is ever seen, it is felt. In our reception area, texture takes center stage, with soft velvets, layered upholstery, natural linen drapery, and materials chosen to be both beautiful and enduring. Every fabric in our Upholstery Gallery is selected not only for its character, but for the life it is designed to support. Inspired by nature’s palette and punctuated with intentional moments of color, this space welcomes guests with the warmth and comfort that define Clarity, Balance & Beauty®.

On the Table Tuesday

Every project is shaped one thoughtful decision at a time.

This week on the design table: cabinet door styles and hardware selected for two bathroom vanities, along with the drapery fabric and counter stool leather being considered for a morning room in an ongoing kitchen transformation.

It’s these carefully curated details that come together to create a home with Clarity, Balance & Beauty®.

Fresh florals bring unmatched beauty, fragrance, and a sense of life to a space whenever the setting and maintenance allow. When lasting beauty is the better choice, invest in the highest-quality faux florals you can afford because well-crafted stems can look remarkably realistic and provide years of enjoyment. The key is selecting pieces with natural color, movement, and proportion. Thoughtfully chosen, both live and faux florals have a place in beautifully designed interiors. Clarity, Balance & Beauty® begins with choosing what best serves the space.

Whichever door you’re walking through today, enter the room looking your best.
Not because appearances are everything, but because preparation, professionalism, and confidence often speak before you do.
You never know which opportunity is waiting on the other side of that door.
Go prepared. Go with purpose. Go be your best.

Design Table Tuesday
A quick look at what’s on the table this week, from materials and finishes to drawings and details that are shaping the spaces we’re creating.
Three very different spaces, three very different stories… and that’s just a glimpse of what’s on the table today. See you next Tuesday.

People ask how I find pieces for a home. This one found me; a 19th-century stained-glass window from an 1800s church, discovered at Caravati’s salvage yard and brought back to life at ES Taylor Studio before finding its place in our clients’ morning room.
Some details don’t just fill a room. They carry a story, and give the next generation something to grow up around.

Yesterday at Virginia State University 🧡💙
I had the privilege of walking the grounds of a building we’re helping bring to life, while meeting prospective students touring campus.
Watching their excitement reminded me why this work matters.
We aren’t simply designing buildings. We’re helping create places that will welcome, encourage, and inspire generations of students.
There’s something deeply meaningful about investing in spaces at an HBCU; where excellence has been cultivated for generations, and where the next generation of leaders will continue that legacy.
To every student I met today: your future is bright, your dreams matter, and you deserve spaces that reflect your greatness.
The spaces we create shape the lives we live. Grateful to collaborate with the talented team at Baskervill on a project that will serve the VSU community for years to come.
