Remembering Kix | September 27
Some days remind us that mountain biking is about so much more than the trails. It’s about the people, the friendships, and the community that brings us together.
On September 27, 31 mountain bikers, along with friends and family who traveled from Tucson, gathered in the Pinal Mountains to honor Kix by riding Six Shooter and Ice House. Since Kix had ridden Six Shooter before he passed, returning to these mountains made the day especially meaningful.
We were honored to shuttle everyone up the mountain and be part of a day filled with riding, shared memories, stories, laughter, and time together over food and drinks. Seeing the Tucson MTB community come together, including other bike shops who showed their support, was a reminder of just how special this community is.
This day also carried a special meaning for us at Topo Joes. This weekend marked one year since the flood that destroyed our shop. While that anniversary brought its own grief, being surrounded by this community and helping bring people together to honor Kix was healing for us in a way that’s hard to put into words.
One year after our own devastating loss, we were reminded that even in the hardest seasons, connection and community can help us find our footing again.
We wish we could name everyone who came out, but to every rider, friend, family member, and bike shop who was there: thank you. It meant more than you know.
These photos capture just a little of a day we won’t soon forget.
Ride in peace, Kix. You brought a lot of people together, and your memory continues to do just that.
