💔 THEY SURVIVED THE FLOOD… BUT LOST THEIR HOME. LET’S HELP THEM.
Today, I spent time with this father Eric Foster, a fellow Ouray resident who will never forget July 29, 2026. I never met Eric or his family before, but instantly I knew his family was special and needed help. They were evacuated from the Gold Mountain Fire earlier this month, now they lost everything in the flood.
Eric was working near Telluride when he received the phone call every parent fears. His wife and their three young children were instantly trapped inside their home on Blue Tip Drive, just north of Ouray, as Cutler Creek exploded out of its banks below the Gold Mountain Fire burn scar.
As Eric shared what happened, his voice broke and tears filled his eyes. Mine did too.
He described racing home and carrying his children through raging water filled with mud, massive boulders, trees, and debris—doing everything he could to get his family to safety.
If you’ve watched the video on this page, you’ve already witnessed part of their nightmare. It was filmed by their 11-year-old son, Weston, while the family was trapped on the second floor, waiting and praying they would survive. No child should ever have to experience something like that.
This wasn’t ordinary flooding.
This was a torrent of destruction fueled by the nearly 40,000-acre Gold Mountain Fire burn scar which is now 60% contained. What came down Cutler Creek wasn’t just water—it was rocks, trees, mud, and debris powerful enough to tear homes apart. In just minutes, Blue Tip Drive transformed from a quiet residential road into a river of destruction.
Just weeks ago, the Foster family was forced to evacuate because of the Gold Mountain Fire.
Now, this Ouray family has lost the home where they were raising their three children. The lower level is buried beneath feet of mud, rock, and debris. Vehicles are buried. Their belongings are gone. Years of memories were swept away in a matter of minutes.
But one thing wasn’t taken from them…
Each other.
Eric is a hero. His wife showed incredible courage. Their three children displayed strength beyond their years. By the grace of God, they all made it out alive.
Now it’s our turn to help.
If you’re able, please consider donating to help the Foster family begin rebuilding their lives. Every donation—no matter the amount—and every share brings them one step closer to recovery.
