After the whole discussion the other day about the red banister with the green tile, I had to stop and laugh when I was walking out to my patio at home earlier today and saw this. It's not like I don't see it every day, so you would think I would have thought of it before. 🙄 But our exterior doors are the exact red I am using at Lasalle, and the trim around our back door is also a very vivid acid green. It's left over from the previous owners, who built this house, and I have no intention of ever painting over it. It's my little tribute to Jack and Gail. Is it a sign? 🤔 I don't know. But I sure got a chuckle out of it!

Bonus "before" pics of the kitchen, so you can see how the green tied into the scheme.

Weekly update from Lasalle! How has another week gone by already? Egads. HUGE shout-out to Ben and John Ewing’s Wood Floors for their amazing work installing the floors this week. They've also done a lot of refinishing of hardwood for me, and always do a stellar job. So if you need any flooring installed or refinished, give them a call!

Enjoy the update, and I'll catch up to you soon from Edwards. Right now, I gotta go paint...

I had a conversation the other day with one of you about how houses hold so many of our memories. I also believe that they have a sort of soul, which may or may not be the lingering echoes of the people who have loved the house before. Part of the reason I believe this is because my houses so often send me messages of love. This first photo was what was left in the dust at my very first project when I picked up an extension cord that had been lying on the floor for a while.

Scroll through for the rest of story, and to see what Eddie gave me yesterday.

This was on the basement floor at my Northrup project. At that project, I had only recently finished my cancer treatment, and then turned around and lost my dad to cancer. I believe the house was showing its support.

This photo is from my Loraine project. I tore out an ugly built in upstairs, and this was behind it. Similarly, at my mom's Degroff house, I found a note that said, "I love YOU more!" ❤️

And yesterday at Edwards, this fell out of the ceiling during demo. Daisies are my favorite flower. I think Eddie likes me. 🥰

Haven't found any messages at Lasalle yet, but the vibes are good. I think she's withholding judgment until the end. 😉

I'm about to remove this railing to take it to our good friends over at Clockwork Powdercoating to get cleaned up and re-coated in a lasting fashion. But I'm not sure what I want to do with it. Classic black, like the windows and some of the bathroom tile? Take it back to futuristic silver aluminum? Or use one of the colors in the house (MCM red, ochre, blue)? The walls will be neutral.

Weigh in! What's your vote??

Someone said to me recently, "I don't know how you come up with all these colors." And I said that they generally start in my head, and then the struggle is to find an existing paint color that matches the vision in my head. And when I can't find one, this is what happens.

I was looking for the perfect shade of ochre, "perfect" being inside my own brain. Couldn't find it. So I mixed BM Sulfur Yellow (which was on-point, but too strong) and BM White Dove until I got what I was looking for. 😃
