A 9 hour excursion from Minneapolis brought one couple to this early-1970s A-frame kit house for sale on Lake Superior’s north shore. And on their way home, they sent in an offer. “It was love at first sight,” says Melissa Coleman, who bought the cabin with her husband, Kevin. “The inside is wrapped in cedar, and the smell was intoxicating.” The Colemans immediately began dreaming about transforming the cabin into a family escape where they could spend uninterrupted time with their two daughters. “I wanted an offline place to go—a place where the trees have bigger reach than any Instagram post,” Melissa remembers. As compelling as the charming architecture was, surrounded by towering evergreens, the cabin needed a major update, structurally and aesthetically. For the ensuing renovation, the family called on Anton Moody of Taiga Design+Build. In just under a year, “Anton and the team gingerly took it apart, replaced the broken parts and guts, and then put it back together,” remembers Melissa. The revamped Minne Stuga is just about the perfect place to sit back, relax, and enjoy the Great Lakes life. The Colemans now also rent out the cabin between their stays. “We were thinking that if we needed a place to escape under the big tall trees, maybe others would, too,” says Melissa.
