A foundation for transformation.

In this 1970s kitchen remodel, every detail was selected to create a space that feels warm, welcoming, and uniquely theirs.

Provided by Riemer Floors, The warm oak-tone LVT flooring was first spotted on display at one of our KSI Design Centers, and it became a defining element of the whole design. Its natural wood tones tie directly into the rich wood island and soft greige cabinets, bringing warmth and texture into a space that could have easily leaned cold instead.

Sometimes the most important decision in a remodel isn’t the one you notice first. It’s the one everything else gets built around.

From disconnected and dated to eclectic, inviting, and full of personality.

The existing peninsula limited both storage and prep space while creating a disconnect between the kitchen and the living room beyond it. KSI Designer Brooke Dando's fix wasn't a bigger kitchen. It was a smarter one: a long, well-proportioned island that gave back the storage and prep space the peninsula used to hold, while finally letting the kitchen and living room read as one continuous space.

Warm Brown Sugar cabinetry and a striking Evergreen island bring the homeowners' bold style to the forefront, with dedicated storage built in for everything from everyday essentials to countertop appliances.

There's just something about this Maple Java finish in the fall that we can't get enough of.

Rich brown with subtle reddish undertones adds depth, giving even one of the smaller rooms in the house a color that feels considered rather than convenient. It's perfectly paired with a soft, veined Carrara Miksa quartz, bringing a sense of balance to the entire powder room palette.
It's the kind of space that delivers seasonal comfort all year long.

Often overlooked, but always in view: electrical outlets.

While code-required and essential, even the most functional details deserve thoughtful consideration, especially when a full-height stone backsplash is central to the design vision. And when that’s the case, you don’t just make it work, you make it right.

In this kitchen remodel, KSI Designer Brooke Dando collaborated with the builder to create a seamless solution: color-matched outlets that blend effortlessly into the stone, preserving the beauty of the material while minimizing visual interruption.

The result is a refined, cohesive aesthetic that allows every element to shine. With the range taking center stage, the homeowners’ bold style and distinctive personality remain the focal point.

Because exceptional design lives in the details, where thoughtful choices make all the difference.

With a clear vision and a folder of inspiration photos already in hand, the real task was making sure the cabinetry lived up to it.

"My job was to take that vision and translate it into cabinetry that would feel just as warm and rooted as the setting around it," says KSI Designer Betsy Writer, who worked with builder Pennebaker Homes on a lot tucked into the woods in Canton, MI.

The standard paint offerings came close, but something was still missing, so the team turned to Merillat Cabinets' Masterpiece Collection for a custom color match, landing on Sherwin-Williams' Studio Beige while keeping the cabinet line she'd already chosen. Warm maple in a Peppercorn stain balances the palette across the island, the range hood, and the coffee nook shelving.

Your coffee station can do more than just make coffee.

Underneath the Evergreen cabinets is where the real work happens. Before the remodel, half the homeowners’ small appliances had ended up stored in the garage simply because there was nowhere else for them to go. But after KSI Designer Brooke Dando rebuilt the cabinetry around how they actually cook, the coffee maker now sits front and center, with everything it needs within reach. Framed by a full-height slab and open shelving above, the station ties directly back to the rest of the space instead of feeling like an afterthought.

The open shelving and layered design make a statement of their own. What’s happening in the cabinets below is a different story entirely. Quiet, efficient, and doing far more work than it lets on.

A coffee routine, treated like the morning luxury it actually is.

In this kitchen, KSI Designer Brooke Dando turned an ordinary stretch of wall into a moment of its own: a hutch in a rich Evergreen with open shelving, anchored by a full-height slab surround. Open shelves hold the homeowners’ own pottery and collected pieces, turning a functional detail into something that reflects who actually lives here.

Coffee stations have become one of the most sought-after features in kitchen design this year, and after seeing this one, it’s easy to see why. Turning everyday routines into dedicated moments like this one is exactly what good design is supposed to do.

Some renovations start with a wish list. This one started with a promise.

These homeowners had one non-negotiable going into their remodel: the refrigerator stayed. It had years left in it, and they loved it too much to part with it. So KSI Designer Krista Daily brought in one of KSI’s in-house appliance specialists before a single new piece was chosen, not to design around the fridge, but to design with it.

What came together was a suite built specifically to earn its place beside something the homeowners already trusted: a built-in air fryer, a convection oven, an induction cooktop, even special-ordered handles matched to the kitchen design so everything was complementary – like everything was always supposed to be there.

That’s the difference between appliances that get installed, and appliances that get planned for.

There’s a difference between hosting because it’s your turn, and hosting because your home makes you want to.

A bar that never runs dry mid-conversation. An island big enough for the appetizer chaos and the “just let me help” crowd that always ends up right where you’re working. Storage that means nothing is missing at 6pm with people already at the door. Small things, but they’re the difference between managing a party and actually enjoying it.

When a space works for you, hosting stops feeling like an obligation and starts feeling like the whole point of the season.

A little reminder: hosting season is right around the corner.
