We came to Japan for the food… and ended up climbing a mountain! ☺️⛰️🇯🇵

My sister, dad, and I traded the busy streets of Tokyo for a little adventure in nature!

After an hour on the train, a short scenic cable car ride, and a beautiful hike up Mount Takao, we were rewarded with breathtaking views of Mount Fuji! 😍🗻

And the best part? Discovering a completely different side of Tokyo that so many visitors never get to experience.

The hike was amazing! My legs the NEXT day? Let’s just say they reminded me how out of shape I am! 🤣

But getting to share this adventure with my sister and dad made every step worth it. 💕

Did you know you can experience a cranberry harvest in West Michigan?! 💙

And if you want to see it for yourself, you have two Saturdays this October to experience Cranberry Harvest Days at DeGrandchamp Farms in South Haven!

Last year I took my family to experience the harvest, and seeing an entire bog filled with floating cranberries was seriously incredible. This week I went back while they were preparing for this year’s harvest and got to see even more of what happens behind the scenes.

And here’s something I didn’t know until visiting… cranberries don’t actually grow in water!

They grow on low vines close to the ground. When it’s time to harvest, the bogs are flooded, the cranberries are loosened from the vines and float to the surface. From there, they’re gathered, washed, sorted and packed.

It’s one thing to see pictures of a cranberry bog, but actually standing there and watching the whole process is SO cool.

I’ve always joked that I have a black thumb. 🌱😂

Then one day I walked outside and noticed tomato plants growing in my flower bed.

At first, I just stood there thinking…

Wait… I never planted tomatoes.

After a little detective work, we figured out exactly who our mystery gardener was.

I guess she’s been planting our garden all along. 🍅

There’s something special about a city that knows how to gather. 🍽️✨

The Best of Grand Rapids party was more than just an event filled with incredible food and local businesses. It was a celebration of connection, community, creativity, and the people who make this city feel so welcoming and alive.

There’s just something special about seeing people come together to celebrate the heart of our city. 💙

As someone whose heart behind My Chunky Table has always been about gathering people together around food and meaningful experiences, nights like this feel especially inspiring. Food has such a beautiful way of creating conversations, building friendships, and turning ordinary moments into memories.

So grateful to be part of a community that continues to value gathering, supporting local, and celebrating one another. 💙

Building connection over perfection. 🍰✨

This beautiful layered cake is one of my favorite desserts because it takes away the pressure of perfectly decorating and focuses more on the experience of building a cake to enjoy together.

I loved being back on Fox Morning Mix with Michelle and Todd sharing laughs, building a cake together, and reminding people that the kitchen can be a place for confidence, creativity, and connection. 💙

Two crepe classes this week and I loved every minute of it 💙

From learning the techniques to creating their own crepe masterpiece,
my favorite part is watching everyone come together and so proud of what they made.

Crepes have become one of our family favorites, especially when we’re inviting people over or hosting a dessert night. It’s such a fun way to turn dessert into an activity and create your own experience together.

It’s always more than just the recipe… it’s the time spent together, the conversations, and the memories created along the way.
