Sometimes the right finish isn’t the one that makes a piece look new. It’s the one that lets it feel beautifully old again. 🖤

This little cabinet started out bright red, and a smooth, perfect finish just didn’t feel right for the piece.

Because traditional distressing would have exposed the red underneath… that was definitely not the plan. 😂

So instead, I refinished it in Black Noir and added subtle Tanned Leather aging by hand to bring back the worn, rustic character in a much more intentional way.

Now it feels like the charming old coffee bar it was always meant to be. ☕️❤️

Now available at House2Home in Covington.

Another one rescued from the — gasp — landfill! 😂

This maple table and four chairs came with more repairs than expected, but there was way too much good furniture here to give up on it.

After sanding, repairing, painting, staining, sculpting and reupholstering, it’s now finished in Creamy Linen with a warm wood top and botanical seats.

Not bad for something that just needed “a little work.” 😆

Ready for its next chapter!

From a tired scratched up wardrobe to a classic black beauty. 🖤

This vintage cedar-lined wardrobe had good bones, but the exterior had definitely seen better days. I kept the beautiful cedar interior natural, refinished the outside in Farmhouse Paint’s Black Noir, and reused a pair of vintage solid-brass drop pulls that had just the right amount of character.

The result feels a little like a tuxedo in furniture form — tailored, timeless, and full of charm.

And it’s every bit as useful as it is pretty. Before built-in closets were common, wardrobes like this stored clothing, linens, blankets, and seasonal pieces. This one will get to do that job again — it’s headed to the booth for sale, but until it finds its new home I’ll be using it to display some vintage clothing items in the booth.

What do you think — did this thrift store wardrobe deserve its second act?

A little workshop progress report on two very different storage pieces.

I loaded up the sprayer with Farmhouse Paint’s Black Noir and quickly transformed the exteriors of both of these pieces in an afternoon.

The cedar-lined wardrobe is cleaned up, painted and looking SO much more elegant — while that beautiful cedar interior gets to remain the star inside. The exterior will remain smooth and sleek.

And the coffee bar cabinet now has its Black Noir exterior and Metropolis interior together. This one will get an “aged” exterior treatment. It is, after all, at least 50 years old. Now I can actually see the vision coming to life! ☕️

Neither one is quite ready for its final reveal yet, but we’re getting close! One more day . . .

Coffee bar or vintage wardrobe — which would you use in your home?

This thrift store find is more than just an old wardrobe — it’s a piece of practical furniture history.

Before built-in closets became standard in homes, wardrobes like this gave families a place to store clothing, linens, blankets, and seasonal pieces. The cedar-lined interior was especially useful because cedar helped protect stored textiles and kept them smelling fresh.

This one still has that beautiful natural cedar interior, so I’ll be keeping it that way. The outside, however, is getting a whole new life in a clean, classic finish.

A classic wardrobe can still be incredibly useful today. It could work as:

* a traditional clothing wardrobe
* guest-room storage
* entry closet coat storage
* seasonal clothing storage
* or even display and storage for vintage clothing in a booth (hint, hint!)

I love pieces like this because they were built to solve a problem — and nearly a century later, they still can. 🖤

This little dining set has required a lot more repair work than I expected — but we are SO close! 😃

The table legs needed plenty of glue, wood filler and sanding, and one chair even lost part of the turned detail on the leg, so I rebuilt it with epoxy.

Now the table and chairs are coming together in Creamy Linen, the maple top has been refinished in a warm medium brown, and the final step will be upholstering the seats in this beautiful botanical fabric.

I think all that repair work is about to pay off. 🤎🌿

Final reveal coming soon!

This beautiful vintage buffet was already a great piece — it just needed a little attention. Over the years, it has served several purposes in our home: a TV stand, guest room storage, a dining sideboard, and accessory storage in our main bedroom.

Originally, the cabinet doors had locks but no keys, which meant you had to use a finger in the keyhole to open them — and the doors didn’t always stay closed. To solve that issue, I removed the locking mechanisms, added drop pulls for easier opening, and installed magnetic closures to keep the doors neatly in place.

The original wood finish was cleaned, touched up, and conditioned, bringing out that gorgeous burl character.

This piece is not only classic and beautiful, it’s now fully functional. And it’s available today at House2Home in Covington.

Happy National Coffee Day! ☕️

Seems like the perfect day to share the plan for one of my next projects.

This little red cabinet is about to become a coffee bar with a Black Noir exterior, Cashmere interior, and subtle Tanned Leather aging.

Lots of storage, a much better purpose, and hopefully a very pretty transformation.

Here’s the inspiration — now it’s time to make it happen.
