🌹So… is a rose really just a rose? Not by a long shot.

The rose on the left is an Explorer. It has a deeper, richer red color, a much higher petal count, opens into a beautiful full bloom, and in my experience holds extremely well.

The rose on the right is a Freedom. It has fewer petals and a much smaller, less impressive bloom — but look at that stem length.🥀

So it was actually a bit of a trick question. The prettier, more premium rose has the shorter stem, while the less impressive rose has the longer stem.

And this is why I don’t buy roses based on stem length alone.

For everyday arrangements, I’d much rather buy a beautiful, high-petal-count rose on a shorter stem because I’m going to cut most of that stem off anyway. For traditional dozen-rose vases, I normally use 60 cm roses, which gives me the height I need without wasting money. I rarely have a reason to pay extra for 70 cm roses just to cut several inches off and throw that money in the trash.🌹

Quality isn’t measured with a ruler. A longer stem does not necessarily mean a better rose.😉

🌹 GREENSBURG HOMECOMING • SEPTEMBER 25 🌹

Homecoming will be here before we know it, and this year I’m asking everyone to please order your corsages and boutonnieres as early as possible.

Homecoming happens to fall during an exceptionally busy week for me at Aspen Tower Florist. I have two large weddings, one of which is for my own family. I also have the Indiana Funeral Directors Association Regional Conference that Thursday, and I will be gone most of the day.

When it comes to designing, it’s usually just me, myself & I! I can crank out a LOT of flowers, and normally I don’t mind accommodating those last-minute Homecoming orders. This year, that simply may not be possible.

I never want to turn away an order, so the earlier you order, the better. Ordering early is the best way to make sure I can have your flowers ready for Homecoming.

As Homecoming gets closer, I may need to set a firm ordering deadline once I reach capacity, so please don’t wait until the last minute.

NOTICE: Aspen Tower Florist will be closed today, and possibly Friday and Saturday. It is yet to be determined. Your florist is flooded in!!
I didn’t have any service or WiFi earlier so I’m late with this information.

Fortunately we live up on a hill that is currently an island, so here’s the situation: We live near Haspen Acres outside of Laurel. When I came home last night the water was at the end of our driveway. No problem! It did that last year. I got concerned last night when I heard they were evacuating Metamora and possibly part of the town of Laurel. Because I had an early delivery, we went out early this morning to see what my options were to get to the store, we made it halfway down our driveway and saw there wasn’t one!!! Our mailbox is currently under about 4-5’ of water and more rain is heading our way. The bridge (a half mile away) is under water and the river is at the bottom of our driveway. Every exit I have (& there are several) is under water.

We have the phone forwarded to our cell if someone needs to place an order for next week.

Stay safe everyone! PLEASE DO NOT ATTEMPT TO DRIVE OR WALK THROUGH FLOOD WATER!! I’ll be there as soon as water recedes— or if Noah swings by and picks me up on his way through! 🌊
