Many things in Feb and thought I'd have time to post about them… somehow it's already today. 😆
I'll still be going to vendor events, about 6 events planned this year. Trying to slow down my pace a bit and hope to create more unique stuff along the way~ (last year 2025: 20 events completed🧐)
Back in February, I turned off international shipping on Etsy due to complicated customs rules. And honestly, it feels like a long story in my mind, even though it all actually happened within one week.
I had originally set my shop for tracked international shipping only, which means EXPENSIVE, so I didn't expect many orders from outside the U.S. One day I got an order from South Africa. The customer even upgraded the shipping option, so I thought, hmm she must really like my jewelry and can't wait to receive it :p
After Googling some South Africa shipping cases from other Etsy sellers, I realized… ohhh the post office might not be a good option, and it could take a very long time to deliver. So I asked the customer if she'd prefer using a private carrier like DHL. She agreed.
Then I signed up on a DHL page in German (Deutsch)… only to realize it was for Germany domestic shipping only 😂
Finally I found the correct page, entered all the information, and got the shipping quote: around $200!? (plus another $20-$40 duty due upon delivery)
At that point I was like… !!!?!!
She had ordered one bracelet, and I just don't expect customers to pay a crazy amount for shipping that costs way more than the jewelry itself. So unfortunately I had to cancel the order. It made me feel a little sad… but also thankful that people from so far away found my shop. 🌍✨
Anyway, after taking two international orders (Australia and Canada), we now offer U.S. domestic shipping only. 🥲
