Debi Mazar was once advised to lie about her age in Hollywood.

She refused. And decades later, she is still refusing to treat getting older as something an actress should hide.

Mazar, known for Goodfellas, Entourage and Younger, has been unusually candid about an industry where actresses can feel pressure to remain visually younger than the characters they should naturally be growing into.

Years ago, she explained that she didn't want to spend her career trying to compete with actresses decades younger than herself or chasing Botox to do it.

What she wanted was much simpler: to remain expressive and be hired to portray women her own age.

That attitude hasn't disappeared as she has grown older.

Mazar has spoken about accepting the changes that come with ageing rather than treating every wrinkle or grey hair as something that needs correcting. She has also revealed that early in her career she was encouraged to shave years off her age because people believed admitting the truth could hurt her opportunities.

She chose honesty instead.

And at 61, Mazar is still acting.

For an actress, there is something quietly defiant about that choice: not pretending time has stopped, not competing with the face you had decades ago, but asking the industry to make room for the face — and the woman — you are now.
